Seiko movements , made in Malaysia & in Singapore
Several of Seiko's automatic calibers are either made in Malaysia or are made in Singapore . Does this mean the quality is lesser than the made in Japan movement of exactly the same movement / caliber ?

I would think the Malaysian or Singapore workforce Seiko uses , would be equally as capable as the Japanese workforce ?

So should we be concerned with Seiko movements made outside of Japan ?

It should make no real difference of the actual origin of manufacture ?

I figured the quality should be the same regardless of country of manufacture .

Please keep in mind that quality of these Seiko mass production watches are almost identical...

whether it is made in malaysia, china, singapore, japan... they are ALL assembled by "ROBOTS" that are made in Japan!



and as it is true with any mass production product, you will get a few lemons now and again - irregardless of which country it is made in.



unless the ROBOT in Malaysia is getting an ex-pat pay compared to the one in China... then there should not much difference in quality.

I have also read that Seiko's mass produced watches , are made almost completely by automated production systems & Robots etc .

Technically, there is no diff on which country its been manufactured. Its QC by the local labour that I would be more concerned about.

Some take more pride than others.

I had an Alfa Romeo 156 that I bought new in 2004, made in Italy, as opposed to some assembled in Thailand. It was poorly done and I claimed warranty two weeks into ownership. Some of my friends who bought Thai versions then enjoyed much better assembly.



Why is it implicit that made in Japan is better?

Toyota's made at the Australian "Altona plant" i believe are equal to the ones made in Japan , strict QC ensures the final product meets Toyota's standards . Aussie manufacturing is of a high standard , but sadly many Australian manufactures are shutting down & moving operations to Asia or elsewhere . Ford Australia announced , it will be closing down manufacturing in Aust by 2016 , even after taking a 1.5 billion government grant . :(

Funny when it comes to watches or even fishing reels , i have always prefered my Daiwa reels to be made in Japan then China . Even though theres no real difference to the quality ;)

I tend to understand what you meant coming from a company that has headquarters in France & Italy. Aso has locations in usa.



Looking at 3 locations mentioned,the machinery they transferred shows stark differences in the standard they maintain them.



same machines but from euro site r mostly in a mess if not all.



Same goes to the attitude at work,to them no ot,when it's time to clock out, regardless of what they do. if a product fail,they do rework, but under wraps.

Here in Asia,they forcefully scrap n torment you to produce low yield loss n high manufacturing output they can't achieve themselves at their own sites.



In another previous us mnc,same applies, local standards are in fact much higher,more efficient than us hq!



Most ppl Dun understand why products manufacture in china Dun last longer.



In south east Asia,raw materials /labour/ rental/ electricity cost much more.



In contrast, eg when we made 1000 of a,product,maybe the requirement would be 5-10 rejected.



But in mainland china, even using 1300-1500 pcs to make 1000 pcs of a product is much cheaper n most important faster than Sg or rest of Asia. Thus quality slackens.



Given a choice currently, I'll prefer msia or Thai made products over china n rate them as good if not better than euro/us manufacture.
