Seiko Caliber's 7S26 - 6R15
Question for the members in the know , besides the obvious hack & handwind differences ? Is the Seiko 7S26 & 6R15 movements basically the same ? Or are they vastly different , which one is superior ?

They are very similar, especially as the 6R15's been adapted from the 7S26, that's to be expected:

Other differences are the 6R uses a different alloy (SPRON) mainspring, have more finishing done to them and are better regulated from the factory. The change in the mainspring material adds 10h to the power reserve, don't know if it affects the regulation or if Seiko just requires tighter testing on the 6R's.

This thread served me well , so thanks "Coolie" for your reply . With the info provided , i was confident in making my final desision to purchase my Stargate that uses the 7S36 movement "cheers mate"  ;)

6r is more superior because they command a better resale price. 7s watches can be easily acquired for 60$. :lol:



But seriously I'm not a technical person but because of the hack and wind, longer power reserve and accuracy out frm factory, it is deservingly a superior movement for me.



I think in the resale mkt, there is a pool of ppl whom cannot understand why shld they pay a premium for a damn ti Sammie that houses a 7s36 movement where one can easily get a pre owned sumo with spare change.

Till now, I hv no idea what movement is in each of the seikos or even attempt to understand.

7S25, and the more of these there are, the better for me. ;)

After researching the Seiko 7S26 / 6R15 Caliber's with the help of "Coolie's" post , i am confident the 7S26/36 Caliber movement will provide me with good reliable service as does my JDM SARB-059J Alpinist that uses the 6R15 movement ; hence why i went ahead & purchased my new SKZ-325K1 Stargate ;)

Yup, the 7S's are pretty robust movements, and easily last a decade or so without servicing (tho not recommended). Plus, parts are still widely available in case something does happen, as are many donor '5's. ;)



Yes, the 6R is a more refined / superior movement.. But so is the price tag! :D Again, gotta love the 7S for what it is, the workhorse of Seiko's line-up.



The Stargate is one of the more inspired designs from Seiko, so enjoy! (And just keep an eye on that lume pop piece! :P)

There are also issues with the 7s movt.. particularly with the 7s26B version.



You may have come across people complaining about their 7s suddenly running fast.. in the terms on minutes per day.



in majority of cases, if the movt is 7s26B, then the issue is likely the nut on the end of the spring is caught on the plate.

so the watch doesnt go tick tock anymore.. but rather tiiiiick tock, tiiiick tock (irregular beats).



it happened to me before and i have seen my friend's piece with same issue.



the problem is easy fix but its annoying.

not sure if Seiko has fixed this issue.
