My first Seiko Divers watch

A few weeks ago I registered here at the forum and was really happy that I got welcomed by some members here. Since that day I've been in the hunt for my first Seiko Chrono and Divers watch. I've waited patiently and today I received my very first Divers which I got from a colleague. It seems that everything is original and shows a very good patina on the dial and the hands. The bezel has a good click to it and shows some very minor scratches. It comes with an original divers band which i'm planning to replace with a shark mesh band or a nato strap. He told me that this was just in kept in the jewelrey case for a very long time. The watch is working but stops after 15 to 20 seconds and might need a spa treatment. I'm bringing this to my watchmaker later and I'm excited to see it resurrect and can't wait to use it. I snapped some photos please let me know what you think of it. I'm planning to keep it original as much as possible or maybe do some modification and just purchase another divers like the 6105 or the 6309 models and keep that one all original.



The model of this watch by the way is 7002-700J which according to my research was released just for the Japan Market. Guys please feel free to give your insights and suggestions.

I'm just curious. Is there really no 7002-700J model that was released on black bezel? Because I think I've read an article stating that one had bought his 700J new when it was released on the 90's and it was already on black bezel and he never had the watched serviced or moded. Has anyone of you encountered that here or there is really no possibilty that this model has a black bezel version?

the pip ( the lume at the 12 o'clock) and the number "1" of the 10 minute marker looks wrong.

I cant see anything wrong with the lume at 12 o'clock but yes i can see that the number "1" on the 10 minute mark is "1" unlike to the normal "I" that we see on the common bezels. Weird but interesting. I would now want to know the history of this watch. Hehe. :)

I used to be all swiss kind of guy but now Seiko seems to get my interest more as i find their watches historically interesting most especially the vintage lines from manual wind, automatic, divers, and chronographs. I'm in love with their vintage catalogues too. Hehe. :)

Just and update. Earlier I gave the watch a shake and it worked and it seems that its not stopping after a few seconds. So I set the time(i match it with the time that i have on my iphone) and the date, then i fell asleep and when i wake up its still working and still gives the same exact time as what i have on my iphone. Hmm i'm wondering if i still need this overhauled?? Will observe it 2 more days and will see if it will still work with ease with no hiccups.

Best to get the servicing done, especially when it's an older watch and you're not sure when it was last done.



Seikos have been known to work for easily a decade w/o an overhaul, but as a general rule it's better to keep things in full working condition than wait until it's broken. Of course, that's only if you want to keep the watch for a long time. (Speaking of which, I need to get some of mine serviced... do what I say and all that.;))

Good for you , i hope your vintage Seiko watch interest is a very enjoyable journey for you . Also i agree , that it be best to service the watch . :)

This is my first Seiko Diver's watch that I bought in 1988 which is still with me and running strong:







This 7002-700J as stated at the back was given to me by my Brother:







The crystal was changed by nonetheless Mr Goh himself at his shop - K2!



Unfortunately though, both watches doesn't click anymore when the bezel is turned.
