[An Neh Ma Eh Sai?]- How to know ur 2nd hand Chrono is real?

We have heard and seen that mechanical auto chrono from ShangHai Watch Factory is technically a competitor to the SWISS originals from ETA/Valjoux 7750 and SELLITAS SW500 in various forums as well as collectors around us right? Want to know how to identify between chinese makes and SWISS origin?



Thanks to a paranoid new owner of a 1st hand IWC3777 from HongKong, in our further discussions, we touched deeply into the movement used where he's concerned that his monies didn't goes to ETA but SELLITAs which is relatively cheaper and now confirmed used by IWC and ORIS.



This is how a ShangHai movement looks like...





And SWISS ETA/Valjoux/SELLITAs origin...

Here's the crucial part...









The SWISS origins used in different SWISS Watches, from OMEGA, BREITLING and TAG.

They turn out diff cos manufacturers refinish/remodel/decorate the base movements



so u cant make any conclusions just from that difference in the look of that blocking lever







i must as well look at under the balance wheel to get an indication of the make

Sellitas SW500 is a 99.9% direct clone to 7750, no doubt about that. Previously when ETA have a shortage on production volume, they're the one who sub-contract SELLITAS to make their movements, 7750 was one of them. Today, even though SELLITAS are making their own movement, they still have to dependent on companies own by ETA for parts supply.



SEAGULL clone of 7750? No matter which forum i browse, there is no mentioned of chinese clones made by SEAGULL. Hopefully you had not mixed up ST1940 with Shanghai or Liaoning's movement...

St1940 is a direct replacement for 7750 , u dunno??? The width, height , positioning and the functional components are all the same with the exception of minor modifications from the 7750 base



And now what you posted in your first post claiming can tell the difference from the outlook of the common blocking lever????

ShangHai is a respectable organization themselves.

I don't think they'll shoot themselves on their foot to degrade their own reputations which is now recognized in the world.

If shanghai is sourcing Seagull to replace their own watches and liaoning is supposedly ex seagull top mgmt staff, how does one know with certainty that there are no government links. China like many countries in the world don't operate on a sole investor's $$$ and all works out. There are usually some political links. Shanghai watch factory is unfortunately not that recognizable worldwide. Not even BJWF has that kind of recognition. Maybe Seagull and that's because they have been taking an interest internationally, unlike the other manufacturers. But even they are not considered that fantastic just yet. They all have a long way to go still.
