My latest Tuna mod! The Golden 007! (updated mod!)

My latest Tuna mod! The Golden 007! (updated mod!)
Thanks to fellow bro here - i acquired a slightly worse for wear SBBN 007

Here is the worn down tuna. Definitely it has seen better seas ;)

Rough, amateurish engraving on the back..

Shrouds with deep dings and scratches

The damaged bezel, dial and hands...

So what did i do with it ???

- Asked Mr Goh to pop in Golden tuna dial and hands (have them in the parts box for few years already) . Love gold tuna hands and dial!

- Refinish the shroud. Remove the deep dings and had to reprofile the shroud slightly

- Refinish the insert an bezel. Reprofile the bezel.

- remove engraving on the back and refinish the back.

- Paired it with an old cordovan strap with yellow stitching

Luckily i had a dremel to help me out with the refinishing...

Here is the final product. .... Say hello to my Golden 007!

The paint on the insert came off during refinishing. I am still thinking whether to use gold/black paint or lume for the numerals.

Or just put in a black/gold insert eg the SKX011 insert that i am looking for.

For the moment i am happy with the insert as is.

With stock SBBN007

I will keep you guys updated if any further mods are done for this Golden 007 :D

Badern, nice job! can u share how u did the reprofiling process? I have a case that is in need of a mirror finish like that shroud.

First of all you need a hobby drill such as the Dremel. Its possible to do this by hand but will take a looong time and sore fingers.

Step 1

- use a stone drill bit to remove major dings and deep scratches. If using hand, use sandpaper (rougher grade)

Step 2

- use a brush drill bit to decrease the roughness and small scratches. You will end up with a smooth satin like surface. If by hand use green wool scouring pad (the ones used for washing plates etc)

Step 3 (optional)

- use a rubber drill bit to smoothen the surface further

Step 4

- use metal polishing paste eg autosol or brasso for the final polish. If by hand just use some rags.

For this particular finish, i did not do Step 3 because i did not have the rubber drill bit. Thats why you can see the finish is a bit 'wavy' and not a flat smooth finish.

I have recently obtained the right tools and now the final polish is waaayyy better. No pics yet though. But you can see it this saturday if you come along.

If there is enough interest i can even demo it this saturday but not sure the cafe will allow lol!

Re: My latest Tuna mod! The Golden 007!
Nice work bro.
Re: My latest Tuna mod! The Golden 007!
There's a bead/sand blasting thread somewhere buried in here, you can send the shroud for blasting if you prefer.

It's somewhere in AMK...
Re: My latest Tuna mod! The Golden 007!
Nice job to an old beater ... I would think gold paint on the numerals would look good ....

After a many suggestions to improve the look of this unique mod, i decided to go with the SKX011 insert.

Big thanks to bro NINETOES (Jansen) who came through for me and offered the SKX 011 insert to me ;)

Not only that, he actually drove all the way from Macpherson to Tiong Bahru on a workday to meet up with me during lunch time!

We had a great though short lunch chatting about our love for Seikos. So i made a new friend and got a new insert for my mod :D

So here is the new upgraded beauty!!

Loving this mod! Thanks again Jansen (2 thumbs up!!)

It indeed has a nice glow. But the lume is all original. Not bad from a NOS discontinued dial eh ? ;)

HAhahahaha!!!  Indeed your ex had to go through a lot to get her looking like this!

Needed a face lift (dial) , boob job (hands) , dermal abrasion (shroud/case) , new clothes/shoes (straps) and new make up (insert) ;)

But the heart is still the same good old tuna!
