Hi Bros, my new SRP227 (baby tuna/sardine) and yobokies SS shroud came in today and I messed up changing the shroud pretty bad. I took off the plastic shroud no problemo but putting in the ss shroud was a totally different ball game. Went in pretty much ok but it was a very, very tight fit. Being at home I decided to just use an alen key to tighten the screws in. I realised now that I need some kind of tool (bench press) to push the shroud in further because as I tried to force the screws in I actually rounded it and now I have screws stuck halfway in! What a doofus! It seems I need to use use another tool (pin-nosed plier?) to slowly unscrew and take it out. Does anyone have other idea where I can get similiar screws? I tried searching online but to no avail. May my mistake help you not to make the same one.... :cry:

ThongSia should have replacement screws. Good luck in removing the rounded screws.

Would a crystal press with the correct sized dies be a correct tool?

Read somewhere but i cant seem to remember but the mod does require a little filing off the corners where the shroud meets the lug areas.....



Was it Brother Badern who documented this or maybe i read it somewhere else entirely..... let me snoop around.

Oh dear. sorry to hear that. I just done up my SRP227 and SS shroud too over that weekend.

It is indeed pretty tight fitting. The first time I did it , I have to press very hard to get the shroud in. Even so , I noticed that the holes for

the screws were abit misligned. I tried screwing and it dont thread in fully. Fortunately , I did not force them in or I will probably spoil the screw heads too and got jammed in between.



Therefore , I tried removing the shroud out to redo . It is very difficult to remove after I ve press fitted in. I had to apply WD-40 to slowly get it out.

After I finally remove the shroud without demaging the watch and shroud ( lucky ) , I did some filing using a small file to trim down the shroud at the areas that fit tight. After which , I applied WD-40 on the shroud and do a insertion again. This time round , the fitting is very much better and the screw holes are able to align. The 3 screws got nicely mounted. All in all , I think you need some trimming at the right areas of the shroud before inserting .

The replacement ss shroud can be a very tight fit.

Out of two that I ordered , one fit tightly and the other did not go down all the way. Instead of forcing the second one down or filing the binding spots, I sent it back to Harold for a replacement.



Lucky for you that you were still able to remove the screws. Like Seikosiao said get replacement screws from TS. Make sure you are able to eyeball the socket in the case through the shroud before you screw in the screws. Don't screw one screw all way in at one go. Place the three screws about 3/4 in 1st. Only when there is no resistance then you tighten all of them. Don't force the screws in. Unscrew slightly if you fill too much resistance, jiggle the shroud slightly until you can get the screws in without binding.

Thanks guys for the advice and kind words. A quick update- 2 of the screws came out whlist one is till stuck as it got rounded. So stupid of me to force the screw in. There was some minor scratches but nothing major. I think what I should do is to to buy 2 more screws to see if they fit by using the crystal press method, if not, the only thing I can do is just wear it with one screw. Sighs. Wish I had asked for some advice before turning into Conan the Babarian. So if you guys see a guy with only 1 screw in his Sardine- say hi yeah? Mistake of the month- I think the April's Fool title belongs to me.

Wow, this is long..3months. You can consider cheaper option trying to find SS screw from hardware shop.

If you dont like it after fitting , it is still not so bad ( b'cos it is cheap ) as you can later get the original from TS.

My StarGate lume pip was lost.....







That bloody pip cost $109 from TS.

Three months is the std answer. I usually get it under three months but I heard of ppl really waiting that long.

Wow.. That is long but maybe that's just their standard answer?

I actually ordered a set of 3 screws from Robbie. Should be here in 2 weeks or so. Though he only had the ss ones in stock.

Beautiful white stargate. Actually thinking of getting one sooner or later. This and the all black version are my favourite Stargates.

Oh well..we all have our screw up stories. Maybe we should change the title to 'My Seiko Foul-Ups'. Hahah. but seriously...$109 for that pip? That kinda pricing is worse than our current public housing situation.

There wasn't economy of scale I guess. The only model with that pip and bezel. Can't even reuse other models bezel on this guy.

I broke the stem of my Sardine before. Luckily it is a cheaper foul up, the crown and stem is less than S$30.
