Is k2 going to bring in???

Most likely Encik GOH will test water first on the response of first few sets... if they eventually gets hotly sought after, i wouldn't worry that he will not bring in more... look at the current response of the previous salted egg, bloody tooth and other new monsters!
Re: Upcoming Limited Edition Seikos

Sir, so u know the model?
Re: Upcoming Limited Edition Seikos
Only 2 with 200m WR... the other 2 are not really as "MONSTER" right?

Actually, how do we determine a particular design is a MONSTER huh? One got shroud, another don't have...
Re: Upcoming Limited Edition Seikos
look exactly like a monster mah, just a different color theme only

:? :? Not sure what you mean, but only one of those is a Monster....

1. Top-left: An alternate Blue Trek Monster, I guess.... it's got the case and bezel, but just that a Monster doesn't make. Not a Monster.

2. Top right: Not a Monster. Blue Sardine.

3. Bottom-left: Fine, new Blue Monster.

4. Bottom-right: Not a Monster. The case looks to be very similar, but that bezel is more a Sardine's than a Monster's in terms of shape.

At most, you can say that #1, #2 and #4 are inspired by the Monster, but that's about it. The Monster is what it is, and that's all what it is - dilute a name (even a forum-born nickname) too much, and people lose that instant recognition.

When you refer to Seiko Monster, it's a specific set of very watches, named by watch forumers in 2001-ish which just struck a cord and stuck:
  • SKX779 / SKX781 / SKXA43 / SKXA45's are the originals - just can't knock it, a classic. Rocket hands!!

  • The various Thai-LE Monsters which followed just played off the same base with minor color changes - red dial, blue dial, yellow dial, green dial, white dial w/ blue hands, Zamba... yea, no idea how to describe that one.

  • The SZEN-numbered Night Monsters versions are essentially the same watch too, just PVD'd and with different dials - They say scuba on them and come in the orange & black but also white, red, blue, indigo.

  • The new SRP Monsters are OK; only very slight modifications aesthetically which you can almost miss, though internals are well upgraded. Seiko knew they had a good thing and didn't mess with it too much... heck, seems they even did their best to play to the nickname!

There was an interesting thread Gabe put up on SCWF looking for where the nick originated.

Some other watches have included the 'Monster' moniker in their the (forum-born) nicknames because they utilize a similar portion of the Monster itself but, again, the Monster is so clearly identified (since 2001) and you can't call any of these just a "Monster":
  • Quartz (Peach) Monster - Like a botoxed Monster, all bulked up and puffy.... though it was released before the Monster

  • Trek Monster - Case and bezel shape, but otherwise looks like a very different watch overall

  • Seiko 5 Neo Monster - Sorta inspired by the Monster, I guess, with a similar handset. To me, it's reaching, but...

  • Land Monster - Again, similar handset, but really reaching....

  • FrankenMonster - Franken made it clear it was completely deformed, so it gets a pass. That, and I own one. :P The bezel sorta / kinda / maybe looks like a Monster, but that's about it. But its lume is just killer: better than the Monster, Tuna, Sawtooth, Ecozilla...

(any others?)

Finally, the Sardine / Baby Tuna / whatever-you-call-it - it's a very different watch too. The bezel does call to mind that of the Monster, but the 'teeth' aren't really as prominent as the Regular Monster; partially due to the shroud, but the big grooves aren't there on it. The 'teeth' actually look to be affixed on a round bezel, whereas the Monster's bezel actually has concave indentations to help grasp. Plus, the whole 'Tuna'-ish handset throws it.

Yes, I got bored .... and now, sleepy too. :P :P :ugeek:

I also thought only the bottom left is the Monster. Anyway, thanks for sharing, very good write up and introduction to the various Monster variants/wannabes.

Likely gold hands (and crown), just the lighting and the quality of the pic are not sufficient to show it. All the others look to have gold hands too.
Re: Upcoming Limited Edition Seikos
