4R36 PR and Winding

4R36 PR and Winding
Anyone knows roughly how many turns of the crown will power the watch to full ?

reason being in the event that i wouldn't be wearing the watch for more than a day or so i don't want it to stop



and it being an automatic movement with the slip clutch and no PR indicator, how else can i tell its sufficiently wound ?

In a manual winding watch, it's usually 20-30 turns, I assume its the same for automatics. You can try, winding a watch with say 25 turns and time the PR.

thanks for a rough gauge !

wouldn't hurt to wind just abit more though, we can't overwind an automatic right?

Yup, due to the slip clutch. However I did read about hand winding an ETA automatic create unnecessary torque on 1 of the wheels.



Not sure about Seiko...

For Unitas 6497 & 6498, I notice full wind till you finally can't wind anymore is around 60 turns.

Oh what's their PR ? My assumption is based upon my experience with Russian watches with 40ish hours of PR.



I should try counting the number of winds on my credor, it's PR is also 40ish hours.

Supposed to be 42 hours on paper but I have not timed it before.

6497/6498 typically will get a good 50-55hrs ....

I usually wind 20 for my seiko SRP and wear it. So far , it is OK. I guess 20-30 winds will be good enough.

Did a test on a 6498. 53 hours full wind.

It could be a little lesser than ETAs 2824, which varies from different users, ranges from 38~42hrs.



I'm surprised that 6897/8 can acheive more than 50hrs... which watch did Brudder Rogue got this result?

Asian 649x also last >50hrs ... max PR on a 649x I had was 58hrs ...

Which way to wind a mechanical watch?

In one direction or to and fro?

Understand from a watch technician that the latter is safer to avoid overwinding.

You only wind up with a clockwise direction. For manual watches, it will become tight and can't wind further. For auto, they have a slip clutch so you can't over wind.
