Is this normal?
Hi all



I have a Seiko 5 and an Orient Star that I wear on alternate days.



During the day, when the watch is worn, the Seiko 5 will lose about 10 secs while the Orient loses about 5 secs.



I realise that if I stop wearing the watch after office hours and left them on the shelf overnight, they lose about 30 secs the next morning.



Is this normal?

Do u leave the watch face up or,side ways or face down.



Leaving them at different positions gains or lose time.



should be able to find this info on the net if I'm not wrong.

It's on face up, may be i should try other orientation.

Every watch is different and so you will have to find what works best for you. Crown up, down, Case front, back. If it really bothers you, regulate it at a watchmaker, but need to part with $$... Hope this helps, or do a simple test over a few days and record the results and share with us.

Ok, but I still want to know whether when you all see your watch in the morning, is it still running +/- 5 secs ? LOL

I think it's dem good. Very few of my 7S can claim that sort of deviation when measured on a per day basis.

I think the other possibility is ur watch isnt wound sufficiently while worn and when u leave it on the shelf overnight there isnt enough power stored resulting in the timekeeping fluctuations.

That's why I am thinking the watches probably need to be wound b4 we go to sleep.

Ok, I wound 3 watches as much as I could last night and placed them at this position (crown down).

The results are



Orient +2secs

Seiko5 -18secs

Seiko BM +10secs



I will try other position for the Seiko tonight.

Yup, I'm happy that the Orient is keeping good time.

That is also higher end Orient Star compared to the Seiko 5

I use Time.is to adjust the time, it's ok right?



I have further "wound" the Orient back to full power and wore the BM for about an hour this morning. I placed these 2 watches back on the shelf with the crown down.



Now I'm wearing the Seiko 5 and it's -26secs now,hmmm

Yeh the "Orient Star" , are not your run of the mill "Orient" .

2nd night of test. I decided not to test the BM as I seldom wear it.



Last night I placed the Seiko 5 and Orient in crown up position.

The results:

Seiko 5 -9sec

Orient +14sec



So there is an improvement for the Seiko 5 in crown up position, it lost 9 secs compared to 18 secs previously.

In contrast, the Orient gained 14 secs compared to +2 secs previously.

Yup, I'm learning from my little experiment :D .

I will revert to crown down position tonight to see if the watches can repeat their "performance" :?:

I understand the cosc also times and tests based on different positions. I believe that this is because gravity have different effects in the different positions. Izard why they have the tourbillion to counter the effects of gravity?

Both watches were in crown down position last night.



Seiko -25sec!

Orient +3sec



So Orient is keeping good time in the crown down position.



I will probably send my watch to Skywatch for some adjustment.

Just curious, since the seiko don't hack, how to you do the time synconisation?

When you pull out the crown and turn it anti-clockwise and hold it there, the second hand will stop.



Once you sync the second hand you can adjust the minute hands to the correct time. This works for the Seiko 5.



But this method no longer work on my BM and Orient Star. In this case, i just take note on how many seconds the watch is adrift from the internet time and offset the reading from there.
