If we look closely around us, we're living in an era of brands. And those brands, decorates how successful a person maybe. Although not all ROLEX owners may have such attitude towards others who doesn't own a minimum basic model of ROLEX, there will be some percentage of ROLEX owners will "see" non-ROLEX owners as "buaykans" aka losers.



"After so many years of working life... you tell me you can't decorate/get yourself with a ROLEX?"--> This is what i had encountered before... hence... those who're really in the lower income group, who always put basic life essentials as priorities, will have difficulties in spending more than 1/3 of his/her annual income for just a piece of timepiece with 5 match sticks as a brand...



Is ROLEX a necessity? Is ROLEX really a ultimate reward to tell the others that "I M SUCCESSFUL!"? Individual believes differs...



Just to share something which i had observed...

In SG, when you look at advertisements, the Chinese name for ROLEX is still 劳力士, which literally means Warriors/Soldiers of Hardwork.

However, if you had chance to stumble upon publications from HK, TW, CN, ROLEX is named as 劳力治, which literally means To Rule the Labours.

So... which is more satki??? 劳力士？劳力治？ :D :mrgreen: :D :mrgreen: :D

Dont get me wrong Rolex are a very fine quality watch & certainly by owning a Rolex makes a statement of success , but i personally have no desire for a Rolex .

I am very contented with my "Seiko" , Seiko's heritage & quality is equally as impressive as Rolex , also knowing i paid for a quality Seiko watch & not to prop up retail campaigns , luxury stores , endless magazine ads , movie star endorsements etc , in order to make me feel better about me parting with my hard earned $$$ on a Rolex watch purchase .

If someone buys a Rolex & it puts a smile :D on their face "then job done" equally for someone who is a Seiko customer ;)

Look back at the link again... there are more than 10 bidders for the "ASIAN ETA movement" powered "ROLLIE".



From a certain point of view, should these bidders are real deal noobs, they're definite suckers for the brand. Without any possession of any knowledge in watches. The only thing they see is R-O-L-E-X and the crown logo. Even if the movement is real SWISS ENGINE, aka ETA movement, these folks/suckers will take it for real.



From another point of view, if these bids is made by non-other than the seller himself, yet noob suckers still falls for it... he still wins as well...



We cannot deny... there are always some small numbers of brand suckers around us.
