Hi guys,



Just gotten my first purchase for 2013 from Gnomon- the ocean 44 running the ETA2824-2 movement.



Upon receiving the watch (barely 5 mins ago) I tried to wind the crown and it felt very rough hence am wondering is it normal? I presume ETA 2824-2 allows handing winding right? Please correct me if I'm not cos the feel of winding totally differs from the Seiko sumo which I happen to be wearing today.



Could any of the kind bros here who happen to own an ocean 44 pls advise?

Mine from Gnomon as well... hmm... i wonder had you accidentally turn the crown into "locking" where the friction comes from mis-aligned screw thread with the case and the crown...? If not... maybe it's the movement liaoz... best for you to turn back to Gnomon and tell Anders what's the fault.

I'm pretty sure that I have not accidentally turn the crown into "locking" mode as I could clearly see the threads on the stem... How does it feel likes when you are winding your piece?



Mine is like very rough and when placed near the ears can really hear grinding noise. Apart from that, locking back the crown seems to be a challenge too and I also noticed some mold like substance (whitish substance on the threads), which I will try to remove when I reach off with some sewing threads.

Some of my 2824s have grinding noise, but not really too loud and disturbing. Your case... very hard to tell ley. But if you notice some kind of white dirt on the screw thread, i wonder could that be dried silicon that's used to secure the o-rings on the interior of your crown as well as the stem hole near the movement... Better turn back to Gnomon now while you're still sround that area. Get Anders to open up and check for you... or if better, change another piece.

I received my watch via courier and my office is in ulu jurong.... tried calling gnomon but forever no one pick up.



Now i'm in office and its an open office concept hence I can't be spending too much time on the new watch as it's pretty obvious hence seeking advice on forum...

I dun own a 44, but im basing on other watches tt runs on the same ETA2824-2.. Also, i feel tt seiko's movement tends to wind more smoother than ETA's..

Not sure how to gauge if its fully winded as the moment I unbox it, I tried to wind and its very rough and hard to wind.



Just tried to wind again, in the clockwise direction (turning away from me), it's almost impossible to wind now... even though it still able to when using certain force.... in the anti-clockwise direction (towards me), it turn easily but can hear the lever clicking away...



Is this an indictation of fully wound spring?

Hmm.. It shldnt behave this way (at least to my knowledge).. Think its best for u to contact gnomon asap to highlight them u problem..

Not sure what time you called but they are open at 11.30am.



From my experience, seiko's winding is a lot smoother than a typical 2824. There is more fri toon in 2824.



But if you are referring to a rough scraping sound and sensation, then likely it's about an o-ring seal issue.

make sure crown is fully disengaged cleanly from screwdown tube. if it is fully disengaged and you still face lots of resistance when winding then it might signal a problem with the movement.



p.s handwinding 2824 in the long term can lead to problems

Sorry. Are you tryg to say their service good or bad? I think they offerd a full refund without hesitation i think is top notch service le. Rather than tel. You need to service and you need to wait maybe few weeks? You can on the spot pick up a new piece if you want ma. Or change model?
