hi there,newbie here,recently got myself a seiko black monster and got myself hooked on various seiko divers.was particularly interested with the SBDB001.just wondering if its really worth so much difference compare to the cheaper SBDX001?saw the movement on youtube and was really drooling over it manz! :D thanks for any feedback.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Spring drives are Seiko proprietary tech. Pure mechanical lovers shun it. Others don't feel it's worth the money spent. You can check seiya, higuchi for prices or online. It's a JDM model, TS will be priced higher. An SBDX 001 is an undecorated movement, and gives one an entry into a taste of a diver & GS movement. Is it worth the $, only you can say. Same for the spring Drive. One thing is that the watch design does not allow as many choices for change on the SBDB001. And some people find it too manly looking.

personally I prefer a much hefty watch if it's a head this chunky.



given the chunky look of the watch, it wears light as it's a titanium model so it's sort of a deal breaker for me ;)



but there are a couple of bros here who have this model :mrgreen:

Actually i like both in terms of simplicity look of the MM300 and the legendary movement of the MM600. But sad to sad i dun have a pocket deep enough for both lah :D



My worry is for the MM600 if sway sway kena any problem and servicing, the bill will come up very high, though the rationale is buy "Rolex pay Rolex servicing price" lah. But like what i asked in another thread, is there really a need to do regular servicing even if we do not use the watch for activities like diving? Its just normal daily wear to work only.

Some would say no need to service till problems arise, others will keep to a certain time frame. Again, a personal choice that only an owner can decide on. No hobby is cheap simply because what is the basis for valuing a hobby? That said, for cheaper pieces, it MAY make more sense to just dump the watch when issues arise. There are more who probably prefer to wait and see with a watch than keep it going(with maintenance) & I am not saying one is better than the other. But just like buying anything used, a car or home well looked after generally gives one less problems down the road. Would you service a car since you don't track or use it heavy duty 10-12 hours driving a day or wait and see? (mind you not saying one choice is a better one than the other)



You buy a Rolex, you pay Rolex servicing and get 2 years warranty. About 8-10% of cost of buying, a Seiko 7s26,7s36 cost $150-$300 & servicing cost $80 & get 3-6 months warranty. Both agent comparison. Which is more worthwhile? Only you can make that decision.



All I can say is buy what you like and can afford.

That is the reason I sold my mm300.. scared of service costs.

This watch is very big in diameter and wears very high. Very susceptible to knocks but seeing how the second hand glide plus independent gmt hand. For the price, it is quite worth. The movt is just an entry SD movt, undecorated but everything is sealed inside, nothing to see.

The SBDB001 and the SBDX001 arfe 2 totally different animals. The MM300m is more bling and classy design whereas the SD 600m has a more macho and toolish design in spite of its size.

However if you are new to Seiko divers I would recommend getting the SBDX001 first. The design is more pleasing and also easier to flip if you dont like it.

Buying a high end Seiko Automatic or Spring drive will cost more to service , but they are high precision watches . A Seiko spring drive chronograph e.g Ananta or GS etc is assembled by hand , with approx 416 parts , 50 jewels , 140 oil points & has 5 different lubricants , so yes one can expect a slightly higher servicing cost , but the watch is a top end Seiko spring drive & it comes with a high price tag & the complex servicing & labour is going to be higher priced than a Seiko 5 .

If you want a Seiko watch thats super accurate & minimal servicing costs etc , by a high end Seiko quartz watch .

And with the build of the GS and with not too much of a the price different, I went for the GS. The mm600 just sit too high and I am not use to the titanium weight.



So if u are looking at MM600, may consider topping a bit more for GS SBGA029 or SBGE001. Personally I feel the GS more worth given the price of MM600.
