Help needed for battery replacement
My tuna 7C46-7009 stopped last Thu so I called up Thong Sia this morning to ask if they can do a replacement of the battery and they told me this model very old liao and there is no ex stock of battery for replacement now.



They will try to source from open market and let me know but does not know how long it will take.



Does anyone know if there is any place to get the battery replaced ?



Is it advisable to get the battery to get it removed instead of leaving it in the watch ?

@lunarin : i did checked mr goh yesterday but he said open from the top (1000m), he dont do :(



Probably will go to thong sia to get faulty battery removed then wait for them to source.

According to the manual, it uses Seiko SR43SW battery. Maybe you can source one yourself and ask Thong Sia or JW to put it in. Faster than the usual "wait 3 months" reply from Thong Sia.

Well... it depend on the battery inside the watch.... normal 3rd party battery will leaks shortly but usual quality battery like Maxell will take longer to leaks... so it is best to remove the battery then leaving it.



If water resistant is very important then you may have no choice but to send it back to japan for replacement and wr test.

Is it really that hard to find a replacement battery for this tuna? I am about to grabbing my grail but now I've read this, I am having second thoughts of buying it or not? Tuna gurus, can you enlighten a newbie about battery replacement for all tunas?

talking about batteries, i wonder if putting the wrong battery actually cause any malfunction?



i had a tuna 7549 and i remember i placed a silver oxide or something oxide battery into it.

It is not really hard to find replacement battery.... just have to order from japan! ;)



Dun let battery replacement stop u from getting a quartz tuna..... the only problem is after a battery change, water resistant test is needed... so far Thiong Sia service centre can do it but up to a certain level nia but is good enough for swimming liaoz....

A battery with wrong rating will definite cause some trouble but not necessary malfunction.... battery leaks will! ;)



For example, your watch battery is 1.55V and u put in a 1.5V nothing happen but some trouble may occurs if you put 1.55V to replace your 1.5V watch battery. Naturally, a 1.5V in a 1.55V circuit will drain off the battery much faster than the 1.55V and will cause leakage much faster if dun remove. Hope it make sense..... :oops:

the most important or rather killer abt leakage, is all this acid cause the circuit to "short" killing the watch altogether.



most of the time, the circuit replacement is like replacing the "whole engine" which may end up costing as much as the watch.



Once any battery watch stops, the next immediate thing to do is to remove the battery asap, prolong will likely cause the leakage and leak even more with time to do the above said , although not all case of weak battery leak to leakage, but a high percent do!!!

Thks all for the input.



I went Thong Sia to remove battery just now & turned out that the technician has a 3rd party battery & asked if its ok with me. I gladly asked him to proceed & the watch is running again :)



Total damage is $19.25.



For battery replacement, i think mr goh can do it for 300m tuna but not the 1000m as it has to be opened from the front.

wow, i didnt know that. I wonder how many watch maker at push carts store actually knew this. Happy just check the size of the battery and just plug it in liao. Lol.
