Hi all bro, was llss around to look for a dress watch which is 42mm and above with day,date & month and if lagi best with year and came across this the below 2 arbutus models at around S$350 - S$400+/- after discount.



Will like to check with you guys what's ur view on the below 2 models, spec are as below extracted from their website..



Know that Bro Roo has 1 and will like to gather advice and view on the brand, the watch, the reliability and the durability of it from other bros.



And also the best price to get this watch with a decent discount. From what i know is only Bras Basah some shops carrying it, other that Bras Basah, anywhere else with decent discount?

If you look closely @ the dial layout on this watch...



you'll see that up to 80% is identical to the first model which you had attached, except for the day/night moon display.



If there's a chance, look closely atthe ARBUTUS watches against INGERSOLL in the market, it will not be hard for you to find out that both brands' movements used are almost the same. And these movements are often claimed to be made by SEAGULL, in fact... they are not. Most likely to be OEM in LiaoNing or HangZhou and used in numbers of brands in the market, including those fashion brands.



China movements... it's often struggling for most collectors to take in to their collection, especially when the thoughts on durability as well as serviceability will hinder the consideration of the potential buyers. Hence, the skepticism on china movement watches.

If the above is not a problem for you, ARBUTUS will be a much better choice than INGERSOLL, as the warranty is honored by CRYSTAL TIME, while INGERSOLL AD is not so stable for the past few years.

Hi seiko siao, my input is to ask you whether you want to consider Seagull instead. They have similar designs at $580 after discount (People's Park Complex).



When you are there, there is another shop selling Arbutus also, both shops are on the ground floor.

like chris bro mentioned, can try seagull, not easy to find one with full calender model but there are available models, I've had one previously, though not as pretty as Arbutus but it still served its functions well & kept good time







Never tried an Arbutus brand before & I doubt I will try one in near future. Nothing wrong with the design, I like the design but I think it's the branding, a mental mindset kinda thingy,lol.



But collecting watches are very subjective, if you really like the watch, just get it & try it out :)

A very frank confession from the lao jiao CEO here, which i think will resonate with most collectors here.

However, my take and focus will mostly be on the workmanship, durability and longevity of the movements use, as well as aftersales servicing concern. Brands is not often a consideration factor...

better to honest about it, maybe add a bit biased into it :oops:



maybe these are the differences between a non-flipper & a flipper's way of thinking.



for a non-flipper, these considerations are common, workmanship, durability etc etc. Hmm, for eg, you buy a Arbutus for $400+. No issues for the first 2 years but if the watch suddenly stop running & servicing centre quoted you a high $100+ for full servicing, will you still send it in for servicing? Prob you'll just chuck one side or try other watchmakers to have it fixed up :lol:



for flippers(I admit I'm one,lol), usually these are impulse hoots tbh. When we are tired of it(and sometimes it can be real fast), are we prepared to sell it for $250 or even $200 when we got it for $400+?



even if we post $200, people will still LB us $120/$130 for it *faint



So ultimately, I think branding still plays a small part, be it for own collection purposes or reselling purposes

i've ever llss seagull before but the design does not really sing to me and the pricing is tad to ex for a Chinese movement as Arbutus also uses chinese movement but much cheaper.

I had two arbutus. Both bought new, and I think the overall quality not bad. Depending on how much you eventually paid for them, the vfm factor varies...
