I still wear it now and then... just sad that it's a franken. :(

Sorry to hear that roo. Man that sucks! Enjoy it anyway bro, or how you see fit! At least you can still get the original new ones? Maybe the AQ NOS 77? It's a good looking piece& can soothe the soul for times such as this.
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
sad to hear,

as roland ranfft said , when it comes to fakes nothing is impossible!

have to b relly careful these days
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Yup its a minefield esp with desirable vintage timepieces. Normally they will make fake famous dive watches and now its Aquadive's turn(though started few yrs back)

There are locals who have this watch, one even selling multiples of it....but probably without this WUS thread no one will really know the truth behind...
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Oh well.. lesson learnt...

Wearing it not so proudly today..

So the tell tale signs are the bezel pip, bezel markers are non-3d and the serial number is 7093375.
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
last ones sold are from ebayer HK ,and even at local sgroc. I agree that those deem fakes ones hae blurred backcase details, not as sharp and at times begin 'over the decades' begin polished off ...

So the tell tale signs are the bezel pip, bezel markers are non-3d and the serial number is 7093375.

as what I read:

fakes;

-sharp pointy triangle bezel pip (originals are 'cut off' flat at the tip)

-bezel markers flat and not '3D' (originals are deeper, sharper and looks 3D literally)

-springbar holes not deep enough to hold thicker, stronger springbar(sine its a tool watch)

-back wordings and details looking blur, not sharp. (if its polished off 'unnaturally' ,its a amber light)

-watch out for 7093375 (but sametime also the factors above)
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
And its probably linked to the earlier discovered fakes;

-Fortis MARINEMASTER DIVER

- SEIKO CALCULATOR 6138-7000
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Sad to hear that and wasn't aware that there is an fake Aquadive laying around. Probably, we have to do more homework for vintage Swiss or any others vintage.
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Bro, if you can get conned, let alone people like me who doesn't bother to o dig out any info or history about a watch. Take it as a lesson learnt lah... You are a wiser person now and that is worth every penny you spent on this watch.

Life is like that... Some grow older but no wiser BUT you grew wiser.
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Thanks guys... it's very assuring, well it's not the end of the world....

True on being wiser, never did know there are fakes on this, usually fakes get flooded on the market, this is like slowly easing in, releasing a few pieces bit by bit, while maintaining the high price and demand..
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
They really went all out on this piece. I bet even a seasoned collector with knowledge of aquadive but not this model will not be able to tell which is fake or original even if both are fully stripped down.

Don't be disheartened. Just treat this as a lesson learnt and come out wiser. And though it's not original, it is still a nice functional piece.

This seller is a great guy,a known dive watch collector and he did speak of his regard to the fake aquadive telltale sign.

- lumepip not flat(ie.still pointed) but rest of the bezel markers are slightly better quality(sharper,3D,depth) than the fakes. And fakes would have mineral glass filled(if I read correctly) while other is bakelite...(nt sure the diff)

and the bezel outlook is just one of the many tell tale sign. Got to look on the inside /underneath the bezel and insides of case too.

anyway there are known aquadives with pointed pip but not known to this 'toilet bowl' model. And the seller is selling another variant.
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Hello folks,

The bezels on these watches are acrylic, not bakelite as often called.

There are many internal and extrernal differences between the fake 709-1's and the originals.

BTW: these watches were originally called Discosub and Discochron.

EDIT: "The bezels on these watches are acrylic, not bakelite as often called."

I meant to say that the original bezels are acrylic. They are often called bakelite, but that is incorrect.

hope the seller and buyer can solve the issue before it gets out of hand
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Well we don't speculate, beyond us.

I'm still thinking if I should reach out to my seller but it's more than 2 years ago and he haven't been online since July 2012..
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
police already notified so lets just let them handle the matter

roo7: i'd just try to contact the seller , nothing to lose anyway..
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
Yah roo... just contact and see what seller got to say. most he can say ' he cant do anything and he doesnt know anything too'.. but you have done your part to educate him.
Re: Fake vintage Aquadive....
I wouldn't want to stir any misunderstanding or speculation or doubts between fellow member or even friends. But when one's nick is brought up into the international forum... misunderstandings, speculations and doubts grows bigger, wider, and worst. Not only harming to an individual's integrity, but also his/her reputations.
