Ultimate watch case: Pelican 1470 with custom inserts

Ultimate watch case: Pelican 1470 with custom inserts
I started this project back in September of 2012 and it quickly turned into an obsession.

Over the last few months, I've spent countless hours talking to suppliers from the US, China and Singapore getting specs and prices right, and acquired a small collection of cases from Pelican and other brands that I've tested and made comparisons with. And this is the result:

The Pelican 1470 with my own custom die-cut foam insert.

The case is the well-known Pelican 1470 that's been designed to accommodate a 13" laptop. The case is crush-proof, water-tight, air-tight and fire retardant. Plus, it looks pretty darn cool. You'll be able to fulfill your Jason Bourne/James Bond fantasies every time you carry this bad boy around. If you need to find out more about this case, just look for it on Pelican's website. I've sold a few to friends and the response has been a unanimous, "AWESOME!"

And then there's the insert. I could bore you with detailed anecdotes about how long the design process took, how many dummies I made from styrofoam and how much I paid for the tooling of the die and even how tedious the testing of the various densities of foam was. But I won't

Instead, I'll just point out how this is a denser foam than what Pelican has spec'd, that it'll wear better and last longer than the stock ones. As roo7 said, "I need nicer pillows. Haha the current [ones] based on the cut outs are too nua (soft) and flimsy". These are firmer while still providing great shock protection.

And the best part: they're pre-cut! That's right! Within 5 minutes of bringing this bad boy home, you could popping your treasures in! The pillows inside are shaped with rounded corners making for a better fit for your watches. Some people have reported taking up to 3 hours to cut out all the slots on pelican's standard foam insert; how much is your time worth?

There's little to compare to the pride and joy of flipping the lid open to admire your collection. Like those scenes in Indiana Jones when the good Dr Jones opens a treasure chest, you can almost imagine being basked in the glow of the awesome lume of your watch collection.

Enough talk. Here are some pictures:

The 1470 standard has a RRP of SIN$320. I've got a deal structured with 2 local distributors, and I'm selling this bad boy with my custom insert for just SIN$300.

Re: Ultimate watch case: Pelican 1470 with custom inserts
In honour of the 2nd anniversary gathering, I'm dropping the price of the case to just $270. Again.

And funnily enough, it's the same venue as the gathering in Jan. You'll need to PM me during the coming week with your orders so I can bring it down to the gather. I'm not gonna be bringing extra pieces.
