Marina Militare

Marina Militare
Recently started looking at watches and found this series of Pam homages quite interesting. While I like the Pam designs (in general), I'm not too convinced that they are worth their selling price. (just my personal opinion, not trying to start a flame war here)

That aside, anyone have any experience with the Pam homages from Getat? How are the build quality and longevity of the watches? Any info is greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Re: Marina Militare
I've no experience with Getat but I used to buy MM from this seller before

Re: Marina Militare
Thanks, how's the watch doing so far? I've read up on Jacksontse, seems like his standard have been dropping.
Re: Marina Militare
i have yet to purchase any watches from either jackson or Getat but I do owned a MM previously, timekeeping is ok for me
Re: Marina Militare
Own a MM before and sold it off last year. If you were to ask me ''Will I buy MM again'' and the answer will be ''No'' as I rather keep this fund for other watch in mind.
Re: Marina Militare
rsub99, mind sharing what u didn't like about the MM? Basically what attracted me was the design (pam-like), the ability to customize the design and of course the low price ;)

Yes, agree it has the Pam look. For me as the re-sell value was not good and the watch tend to capture moisture.
Re: Marina Militare
For me I ordered through a popular site recently. Shipping thru DHL and hassle free. 3 pieces came as promised.

Sadly one of them has a loose crown. Its a chinese unitas 6497 movement. Doesn't wind properly unless I turn crown backwards then forwards. A little irritating, but too much hassle to send it back to HK for repairs. Other than that, the finishing on all three are okay. Double wrapped in plastic and covered with bubble wrap. and encased in a foam box and wrapped with sticky tape.
Re: Marina Militare
Bro mind sharing where u got the watches from (pm if sensitive), as well as some pictures of the watches? thanks
Re: Marina Militare
I would recommend a local watch builder/assembler at:

I recently ordered something from Getat, but yet to receive it.

Cool, do share some pics when they arrive. I've decided the customization I want but yet to pull the trigger...didn't help that I just chanced upon yobokies' monster mod
Re: Marina Militare
IMO if you really want a MM, order from JOA. I've read numerous reviews from buyers that endorse his work.

Personally though, i've emailed him to ask about customizing a piece for me. The list of materials that he provided for my order request was quite impressive.

Superluminova lume, Swiss Unitas movement, Sapphire crystal with AR coating, DLC casing, etc.

Although i didn't order in the end, i remain impressed at the speed of his replies and list of materials that he uses. :)
Re: Marina Militare
i read about JOA years back

tbh, the price which was quoted, my guess is about 300 - 400+ USD(or might be even more), you can get another watch with an ETA 2824 in it liao wor

unless the person(buyer) is really a PAM homage collector, even preowned JOA PAMs are selling for about 450usd :o

It's just my personal view :p
Re: Marina Militare
Wah, that means he take me as a cai tao?! He quote me a lot more than that leh! Could it be that the model plays a part also? I asked for a 026 DLC Destro.

Sorry, my bad. Just re-checked the email. The movement he quoted me was a "Swiss 6497 movement", not quite sure if it's ETA though. :)

That's what makes a forum ma, everyone's personal views put together!
Re: Marina Militare
maybe the cost came from the DLC case, usually DLC case price is higher than a s/s case

yeah, unitas 6497.

I think still not worth it leh, haha.

what's the diff btwn a Getat/Jackson's PAM homage versus a JOA's PAM besides the movt used?

is the price justificable?

you can get a decent ETA microbrand with a unique identity case with the moola~
Re: Marina Militare
I haven't seen Getat's PAM homage la, but Jackson's, i feel the lume like abit not there leh. Then again, could be the photo la. :)

Thing is, Jackson is based in China and if i'm not wrong, he uses Chinese movements instead of Swiss ones right? Not very sure about this though.

Maybe design wise not much diff la, cause all based on PAM models ma, but materials used to make the homage (like case material, crystal & lume on dial, etc) i do believe that there's a difference. Else, it's really not possible for Jackson to price his homages at such low prices IMO. :)

Do enlighten me if i'm wrong :)
Re: Marina Militare
you're not wrong.

it's true material does plays a part.

Jackson uses chinese 6497 but I had one or two of these before, the timekeeping imo, does not lose out to an actul unitas movt

lume, ok, i lose, I'm not a lume junkie, even if the lume is half past six like my U1, I dun really mind,LOL

how much can a s/s case, a crystal gonna cost if he purchase in bulk? ;)

right :p
Re: Marina Militare
i know someone who owns a pam but wear a mm 99% of the time cos he travel frequently to jb and scared get rob

lol

Re: Marina Militare
That's true too, about the bulk ordering. Didn't think of it that way haha!

It's the lume that gets to me la actually. Either have or don't have, half past 6 lume see already also pek chek lol.
Re: Marina Militare
why dont u go forthe RXW Poseidon. i got one with the unique dial bought it a couple of years ago directly from blu ginza the guy even threw me extra straps. comes in 3 dial. plus easier to sell if u get sick of it. google it rxw poseidon.
Re: Marina Militare
Thanks for various recommendations guys! I've seen reviews between Getat and Jackson, and most of the reviews seem to favour Getat. Like I originally mentioned the reason they attracted me was their low price and frankly I would not pay too much for them, e.g. >200. They are a bit like cheap thrills actually

Anyway I wouldn't be getting any MM anytime soon as I've just ordered a Magrette Regattare 2011 (still got the pam feel but with more of it own character = no knockoff feel haha)

superb choice although the price is much higher than MM

I bet you love it as much as I love mine.

The real watch is a looker, trust me.
Re: Marina Militare
Thanks, saw in on wornandwound and it was love at first sight, seeing your review helped sealed the deal. Can't wait for it to arrive, been tracking the parcel every morning first thing when I wake up and my wife thinks I'm nuts!

it's worth the wait 8-)
Re: Marina Militare
Kinda like the designs of the titanium mm
Re: Marina Militare
Shit man, that's nice! Good choice on this over the MM, I have to agree :D
Re: Marina Militare
My other half got me a sterile MM a few months back.

Its on my wrist on and off for a few months now. Its keeping time well and I do not see anything wrong with it currently. From what I read here and there build quality depends on mainly on the seller. How long it remains on your wrist however depends your interest in it.
