Thinking of getting my first real watch!

Thinking of getting my first real watch!
Hi guys, I'm currently a student looking to get my first automatic watch, have been looking around for an everyday/any attire kind of watch. Was looking around and found the fliegers to look really nice but prices to be a little steep... Recently found seiko divers really attractive also! Could you guys give me some recommendations?? Budget <500 TIA.
Re: Thinking of getting my first real watch!
Well automatic and divers, the SKX007/9 series are definitely friendly on the wallet, especially the rubber strap models. Add a bit more, you can go for the sardines or baby tunas series.

There are also simplistic Seiko 5 military inspired models..

Do you have any case sizes in mind ? Bracelet, straps ?
Re: Thinking of getting my first real watch!
there are many out there, best to go with seiko diver, color and strap type depend on your taste, 500 can get you a very decent auto from Seiko

my choice would be the james bond and monster series

From your link, I saw the Snow Monster, it's very nice, too bad it's was limited edition. Btw, which are James Bonds' ?

Student... Must learn how to save money and don't waste money.. U need one good watch that can last you many years and yet 5yrs down the road you will still appreciate the watch reliability, look and durability.

Ask yourself a few questions 小朋友 (little friend) before buying. This will help you decide much better

1. You looking for a rugged look watch or a gentlemen dress watch?

2. Rubber straps or metal bracelet?

3. Big dial(42mm and above) or normal size (40mm or less)

4. Daily beater or for occasions wear?

5. Color?

6. Analogue or digital?

7. Divers/ pilot/ dress/ normal/ sports/ 24-hrs?

8. Lume? Take note different types has different brightness? Or even self lume?

Yes, I've seen and tried the 007 and I really like it's simple design! Thought the case seemed to look a little small on my wrist though (~7.5"). Really liked the oyster bracelet that I've seen on several other models instead of the jubilee bracelet though.

Of course I've taken that into account before I decided on getting a seiko! Hahaha.

1. Maybe something in between? Probably for casual wear/school and such.

2. Preferably leather or metal bracelet.

3. As my wrist is around 7.5", probably would need a big dial...

4. Daily beater!

5. Tend to like watches with dark coloured dials

6. Analogue

7. Well, anything that catches my eye!

8. Lume is not necessarily needed, but having it would be good as well!

Was quoted 388 for the stargate after 35% discount at 3D... Didn't get it in the end. :/ Not really very good at bargaining... LOL.

K2 and Twinkle will probably give you a straight answer if they have in stocks or not.

Have taken a look at the snzg13. Liked it's flieger look alike dial, but seemed a little too messy for me... hahaha.
Re: Thinking of getting my first real watch!
How about something really clean and simple and look kinda like a sinn? The one of the left in the pic below.

Re: Thinking of getting my first real watch!
Another question for ts, howlim.

Do you want a hacking or non-hacking movement?

If it's the former, have you checked out the snzh55 (aka fifty five fathoms) range? I reckon you can get anything that comes in bracelet and just chenge to leather straps whenever you please.
