What's the different : In-house warranty / Seiko warranty?

Hi guys, lately has been doing some research as i am intending to get a Seiko Premier...... and been asking around...... Happened to be at my old neighbourhood and pop by my fav watch shop to pick up a watch for repair. Then i ask them the question abt seiko watches, how come retail shop selling so ex, and some retailers here/ ebay (HK esp) selling much cheaper...... Their reply was.... cos its pirated/water goods..... cos their warranty is not from seiko......so they did not went thru proper QC .....



How TRUE is this ? Please enlighten me? Thanks !

In house just means their own warranty, Seiko in Singapore is TS warranty.(with the little blue faced Seiko card with date stamp, shop stamp) It's your personal choice if you want to buy PI(with in house) or pay more and get from a dealer or Seiko boutique.



There is no right or wrong. Only whether what you are willing to cough up for any particular piece.

If you trust the watchmaker the seller / store from were the inhouse warranty Seiko is purchased from will use to make any repairs , then it shouldnt be too much of a problem . But if you dont trust the inhouse warranty watchmaker or need a international warranty or want your new Seiko to be repaired under warranty by a genuine Seiko service centre go with authorized Seiko seller or Thong Sia boutique . I personally needed a international warranty as given by Thong Sia , as i live in Australia & Seiko Australia will take over & honour warranty upon my return home from visting Singapore .

But how about the genuinity of the watch ? That is my main concern......... is it true they are of "inferior quality" since they are not directly from Seiko ? Where do they come from? I dont mind buying with a in-house warranty, it is the Watch i m most concerned about. ;)

Most decent non authorized sellers have actually got genuine Seiko's for sale , but there are some out there selling Feiko's (mostly online) not so often @ a bricks & mortar store .

The only true way to be 100% sure the watch is a genuine Seiko , is to purchase from a genuine authorized Seiko dealer .

Not always research the online seller , check to see if they run a store & online store . Also check previous customer references , "Chino watch" in Japan run a store & sell online .

In a certain way, yes. Could be risky. But there are parallel importers which bring in their own watches but never an appointed Authorised Retailer by the local agent ThongSia. Can we say that their watches are FEIKOs as well? No...

1st of all, it's not beneficial for them to sell FEIKOs. After all, the news of them selling fakes reaches out to widespread of potential buyers out there is fast enough to get them into trouble. Secondly, most of their watches are real, but comes without warranty that's all. Which means the watches are not for local use.

But who gives a heck?

As long as the watches are real, in good condition, sells a certain price cheaper than ThongSia distrbuted Assembled in unknown place pieces, it will still be a bargain hunt.



It's a matter of choice.

If you feel safe with locally Agent distribution piece, pay a little more and be bless with 1yr warranty honored by ThongSia.

If you feel okay with parallel imports sold by some retailers, just check with them do they offer in-house warranty or not.

If you feel okay with grey goods without any sort of in-house warranty offered at all... just pray hard that you won't get a franken piece will do...

Thanks man, nice advice. and i did ask the ebayer from HK abt the geniunity. They stood by it and assure it it is. They have from 11000-20000 feedbacks sellers.. 99.8% positive feedbacks........ so hopefully...... all goes well after i bid :D
