MM600 -MM300 - GS Diver , Compared .
I have been researching the Seiko spring drive SBDB001J1 , its a very beautifull watch . I looked @ the MM300 & must say the MM300 is just as beautifull watch , besides the obvious movements , casing , metal make up & price difference . I think the MM600 is one very sweet watch , the GS Diver is also comparable in movement & price but thats about all .

If one was to consider purchasing a MM300 , MM600 , GS Diver , whats the pro's & con's , i personally like the MM600 , but its pricing is huge & GS Diver is almost same priced :o

So i can see why the MM300 is so popular now , if one went for a spring dive Seiko diver

Whats the best buy - Prospex or GS ?
Re: MM600 , Spring Drive - SBDB001J1
Price wise, the GS Diver is more expensive than MM600. Many would probably consider the GS Diver as a luxury sporty watch with a "traditional" diver look. This is not to say that GS Diver cannot be used for diving, it certainly can but I would guess that not many diver would buy this watch to dive .... (hell I think 90% of the owners wearing diver watches would never go anywhere deeper than a 1.8m depth public swimming pool).

Now, the MM600 would be an out and out tool watch which is what Prospex series is all about, functional, tough and design for a purpose. Comparing with GS Diver, the MM600 has the extra GMT function.

So it all depend on what you want.

Prestige and luxury watch with top of the line workmanship and quality - go for GS Diver (a beautiful watch by the way)

Functional, tough and value for money (compare with GS Diver) - go for MM600

Functional, tough with time proven 8L35 reliable mechanical movement (cheaper to do maintenance service) - go for MM300

Watch design and appearance - whichever speak to you .... (very subjective)

Bear in mind though that the MM600 would be a much thicker watch than the GS Diver ....

Hope the above helps ...
Re: MM600 , Spring Drive - SBDB001J1
GS anytime. GS finishing supposed to be better than Prospex.
Re: MM600 , Spring Drive - SBDB001J1
Thanks "triodeman" for the explaination . The Prospex line up is exactly suited to my needs . I will gladly be using my new Prospex Sumo for now , but if ever the big $$ were burning a hole in my pocket ... :D
Re: MM600 , Spring Drive - SBDB001J1
SD600 is not really that tough compared to MM300, it is soft due to the ti construction. Handle with care~~~

But the sweeping hands of SD... Priceless.
Re: MM600 , Spring Drive - SBDB001J1
The SBDB 001 is not everyone's cup of tea. Takes a lot of getting used to and does not seem like it has the easiest strap combo. Match that to the Spring drive 5R66 movement, pure mechanicalist will frown upon them. IMHO it looks good and def looks chunky and intimidating. So a plus for Seiko plus it's got a rarity in its shoes.

GS divers ooze classic in all respects and again because of the spring drive, a turn off for the mechanicalist. But the designs are a joy to look at. And using a 9R65 would provide similar entertainment to the GS that uses the same movement. Not sure if price is worth more than the SBDB001. (that's personal)

The SBDX001 at its price point seems most attractive though some complain about not having enough oomph, sits a tad tall etc. but ultimately, a solid movement and proce point for an 'entry' level GS undecorated movement. Hence being the most affordable of the bunch & favorite. And if you own one, it's begs the question of is it worth upgrading to the SBDB001? (unless you can find a Pre loved one at a decent price) Good thing is that it's a pure mechanical and frankly, a joy to a lot of owners. In that sense best bang for buck and Seiko lovers are known for this fact VFM :D

Thing is I didn't like the look of the SBDB001 initially but the design etc has grown on me tho' the dough to cough up one of these is still ehem... Being coughed at to justify making the purchase for a chunk of fierce looking titanium! :geek:
Re: MM600 , Spring Drive - SBDB001J1
^^

Thanks "cosmograph" your breakdown is appreciated , the MM300 is a awesome watch & although not cheap $$ wise , it still represents biggest bang for ones buck . ;)
Re: MM600 -MM300 - GS Diver , Compared .
I visted Big Time for the second time today , with the purpose of throughly inspecting a MM300 . I taken pics of it & compared it against the Sumo , Orient Diver 300m . The finish & quality of the Sumo really shows when directly compared to a MM300 , the Sumo is a incredible watch when you consider how much quailty you get @ its price point .

That said the MM300 really does punch above the Sumo , the dial , lumes , hands , case , bracelet , bezel is finished as to be expected for a watch of its pricing "very nicely crafted" .

The Orient diver 300 , is a big bulky watch . I feel the Sumo is better finished than the Orient & the Sumo is half the Orients price , although the Orient is by no means a cheaply finished watch & is worth checking out , only the Seiko Sumo offers so much of a well finished quality watch for its $$ .

The MM300 i can now understand why its held in such a high regard by its owners & why its on so many potential owners wishlist "mine included" , its simply one of the best quality & best finished Divers on the market , you must actually get one in the flesh to truely appreciate the MM300 "A Seiko future iconic watch" . I didnt get to see a MM600 in the flesh anywhere in Singapore , during my many Seiko store adventures , am sure its one very impressive watch .

Bro, I'm glad to know that I'm not the only one in dilemma on which model to buy...in fact I'm stuck with models like Emperor Tuna... Or the SBDX001.... They looked almost the same but are not the same.... And I'm totally confused with their serial numbers with some offering 300m, 600m or 1000m.... And worse they all looked great! Really lost....
Re: MM600 -MM300 - GS Diver , Compared .
If you dont intend to actually go diving over 300m , then "IMO" i would personally go the MM300 .

P.S. i actually aint buying , only wanted to compare the MM300 to my Sumo . To be honest the Sumo is such a good quality Diver , i do Not honestly "Need" to upgrade to a MM300 .
