This seems to be a rather popular watch. There are several variants. The first two earlier variants are sold out. A second batch of one of the earlier variants was relaunched 2 days ago.



There seem to be a fair bit if talk about it on wus.

So this is better in value than an ocean 1 from steinhart?

I have the first batch vintage. I don't have a steinhart ocean 1. But I compared the two while at the shop.



Firstly, the squale is smaller at 40mm. Secondly, the cyclop date window is better on the squale. The one on the steinhart is virtually for show.



Weight wise, although smaller, it is rather hefty for its size.



Unlike the ocean 1, it comes with diver's extension clasp. The ocean 1 doesn't.



The finish is better in the squale IMHO.



Anyway, gnomon has no stock of the ocean 1 at the mo.

The first release classic had text ad 6 o'clock like the vintage below.

Ok here's a bit of history.



The first 1545 were launched with 2 variants. The classic and the vintage. The latter was sold out a few days upon release. The classic as well a few days later.



This latest batch only has the new classic. There will not be anymore vintage as that uses nos dial. Only 20 were made.

I just couldn't help myself but keep looking @ your "RootBeer" comparing to my STEINHART Ocean Green.

The positive impression that i get from your pics will be...

1. The close to Rolex design bracelet, especially the equally brushed links...gives me no worries on scratching the bracelets, if i'm to wear it to the harsh environment.

2. The lume dot on the bezel is not raised. Hence i'll have no worries on dropping off if i carelessly brushed the bezel against any surface.

3. 40mm is just nice, as a unisex model. Fit's men's wrist moderately well, not too awkward on female wrist.

4. BIG CROWN!

5.. ROOTBEER color!!!



What i personally may not like...

1. Hmm... 40mm... Forget about my STEINHART Oceans, will it be a little smaller than my SANDOZ which i already felt quite small?

2. Mercedees hands again???



Overall, i will give your piece a 4/5 score. If you hooted the black one, i might give you 3.5/5. Yeah... you might have guess it... the ROOTBEER dial scores a little more points.

Actually, more than 1 black dial has been released to date. There were 2 in the first batch released - the vintage with gilt hands and indices and silver hands and silver bordered indices. The latter is released as an updated version in the latest release. And all three were sold out in days.



I agree with you on the 40mm size as I have mainly big watches in my stable as well. But i was surprised it didn't look too puny on me. The were a few bros who were also eyeing on the vintage piece and contemplated for too long as they felt thy were rather small, only to regret later as they couldn't get it anymore.



And actually, feel the Mercedes hands complements the watch pretty well.



As for the steinhart green, I'm afraid I really don't have much positive comments about that model. Cos I'm not a fan. And furthermore, the cyclops date on the ocean range is a bit of a joke really. Might as well not put it there.



But thx for your opinions, bro. Always glad to hear and share views with you.

Dunno what's the discount he gives but list is around $740 or $760 I think.

Finally after 2 trips, i got my rootbeer. Here's the first pics of the new hoot

Watch is as good as it is. But it came with the new box which is a VERY BIG disappointment. Box is smaller than a Seiko regular box. It's white thin cardboard for the exterior box, and the internal is a small black box with Squale logo printed with a fold down button down flap. internal is the pillow for the watch and some cushion on the flap to protect the watch glass against the box.



Compared to the blue box earlier, this looks smaller and not to mentioned very very cheap. Really reminds me of those notepad box one will place beside the telephone for scribbling messages. Have left a request to change the box to the old blue one with gnomon and they will call when available. Hopefully it's not lip service. :)

Personally I like the new box. It's more compact compared to the old box and Steinhart boxes. I don't store my watches in the box so this works for me.

I concur. Smaller boxes better. No place to keep them not to mention, big boxes hard to smuggle past customs officer at home hahaha!

Just go for it. Anyway, you can only purchase the dlc now cos the current batch of root beer has already sold out and won't be in stock till sometime next year. Probably sometime in mid-late Jan 2013 at the earliest, it seems.



There were a few that were flipped, including one locally that I know of but all were snapped up within hours of posting.



You sure you want the 20 atmos? It's only 40mm. Might be a tad too small for you.
