Hi Ed and thanks for your advice. I work in an office environment and place my watch on my desk the moment I reach the office, so should be quite safe. [size=133][color=#BF00BF]I kind of wanted a movement that I can wind which was why I didn't consider the 7S3X movements.[/color][/size] However, I seemed to be bitten by the Seiko bug and won't mind getting another (preference would be diameter 44mm and above, if possible). Any suggestions? =)

Yup, Sumo is indeed a nice and value for money diver's watch.



The 6R15 caliber is reliable, reasonably accurate and a tough little piece of movement worthy of a day-to-day workhorse for any purpose.



Mine is working fine since day one .... but unfortunately didn't get much wrist time lately :|

Hi guys, I'm new here and hope to learn more from you guys.



Was thinking of getting an automatic watch to use for work and play. All my previous watches had quartz movements and my favourite was a Tissot that looked like a Tag Daytona. So I asked a colleague of mine who collects watches for suggestions. After learning my budget, he mentioned that Seiko watches are well regarded with good movements. So I started googling for Seiko automatic watches and saw a lot of Seiko 5's that looked nice. I checked with another friend of mine also into watches for some opinion and was 'encouraged' to look at JDM Seikos. "The built and finishing is better, trust me" was his assurance. So, another round of googling narrowed down my search to SARB017, SARB071 and SBDC001. Went to Big Time to look at them and realised the SARB's, while being nice dress watches, were simply too small for my 'stature' (ok so I'm fat). However, the Sumo looked almost just right and the nickname somehow seems to describe me as well.



After some more research, I finally bit the bullet. And loving how beautiful and admiring the detailed workmanship of the Japanese.

MIKER: The SARBs are nice with 6R15 movement, but most of them are <40mm diameter and a little small on my wrist, otherwise I would have bought the SARB071 =)

Ed.Yeo: A Seiko shouldn't warrant too much attention. Not many people (in my office anyway) are aware of these jewels of a watch. Some of the guys in my office rock Rolexes and Pams so they probably won't even bat an eyelid at my watch =p And thanks for the suggestions, though I'm not too keen on monsters. I think they have more bezel then dial, but that's just my opinion and no offence to monster lovers.

Didn't want to start a new thread and since we're on the topic of Sumos here, i'd like to ask if anyone knows any alternatives to cover the gap between the lug ends and the case when you throw a rubber strap on the Sumo?



I really like the idea of rubber straps with deployant clasps but that'll leave a gap about 2-3mm between the watch case and the strap.



I've googled for some time and i think a 20mm Sinn strap might solve the problem since the Sinn strap is "curved" at the ends, refer to attached image below.



But then again, i'm not sure if it'll sufficiently cover the gap because if it doesn't, the gap will look even more awful.









SO CONFUSING ALAMAK!!!! :( :( :(





EDIT: My bad, i surfed some more and i found some pictures of the Sinn 20mm rubber strap on the Sumo, fits perfectly! Now the search for a Sinn 20mm rubber strap with deployant clasp starts... :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:



If anyone has any lobangs, please share!

Congrats on getting your sturdy beater. Wear it well. But joining this forum will only be making this the first of your future Seiko buys.



If you are willing to spend >SG$200 for a sinn strap for the sumo(not that it's a bad idea) but isofranes are a better bet IMO. Of course, if you want to cover the gaps, then that's your only choice. Try asking THG since they are the reps for Sinn locally, if not its direct with Sinn Germany or see if the forum has anyone selling them spare or Pre owned.
