i have a handed down 70s to 80s Rolex OysterDate from Daddy, sent for servicing before which costed about $800-$900 locally, was asked wanna change the water proofing seal, guess what, was told it will cost me about $3000 with installation ...... i am wondering how much this watch worth today .......

What you have with you is a Rolex Precison or what most people call a 6694. It's a mechanical winding Rolex and was very popular then. Got black dialed (common), silver, gold, grey, blue dial also.



A typical preowned 6694 mechanical winding watch you have now will cost an average of $1200-1800 depending on condition and also depending on whether u have the cert and boxes. Blue face is relatively rare, maybe can get a bit higher ($100-200 more).



You must have sent to Rolex Service Centre right? Yes coz their price is like this. I had my gold dial 6694 services and overhauled at 1.2k last year.



There r other reliable shops able to do the servicing at a fraction of the cost quoted by RSC but of coz you might have your concerns about parts genuinely... Workmenship etc..

I'm not a Rollie owner, not an expert as well.

But i would just like to give my 2cts, base on my observation on the discussions on various forums...



If you're thinking of flipping off after servicing, that RSC receipt proof of "touch up/Repair" may be viewed as an "extended warranty" or "certificate of authencity" document depending on that buyer of your piece, which to them, prrofs that the piece you flip to them is "100% ROLEX". This is the fact of life as we're living in a society of "kiasuism". I'm not bad mouthing our own people, but if you put yourself into that position of a buyer, you'll know how serious that psychological bug can be.



If you intend to keep that piece for good, ignore RSC. As there are also competitive watchmaker elsewhere who could do better jobs than RSC do. No... i'm not talking about price, it's the skills that concludes the story.

And in this case, should there be a need to use a part that's not "made by ROLEX" to keep your piece in tiptop condition, it's forgivable. When such situation appears, the concerning watchmakers will make a call to the owner and ask for their approval before going on. But most of the time, these watchmakers wants to build themselves trusts and reputations between them and the customers, they would try as much to shun away from other parts as possible.



In today's market, how much do you think a PRECISION can get when most popularity and attentions goes to the other ROLEX autos? Or how this piece values in your heart, espeecially it is a pass down piece from someone who relates to you...if you're not flipping?

Saw 2 pc of 6694 and quite mint but selling 2k (black dial) . Is it worth to get it? Don't think comes with box.

It's a demand and supply thing... Cannot really say worth it or not. When demands are high, prices went up. But my personal view is 6694 will be a good start for your Rolex collection. Most of the time, 6694 make a good "first Rolex".



But bear in mind something, these watches are easily 20-30yrs old watches. U cannot expect it to run like a mint watch, thus you have to choose carefully. Internals like seal, balancing wheels, casing pittings etc are common flaws for these 20+ yrs old watches. Original parts are rare also. A original casing for 6694 has raised from about $900 (during 2009) to $1800 (2011 when I ask for quote). You must consider these points before deciding whether to get the watch

A advise to u bro. I have a similar gold dialed 6694. I sent back to RSC for servicing and overhaul to enure it can last for another 10- 20yrs... Hahahhaha... It will definitely need some servicing considering the age

Wow bro, blue dial is not common. My advice is you keep it. However, to prolong it's life, servicing is required.







I am also hunting for a 6694 now. If u wana sell, let me know! Hehe

The Rolex you just have been handed down to you from your Dad is priceless "IMO" , dont consider flipping it & the cost of servicing is a small price to pay for a family heirloom Rolex watch .

Might be a little late here but in case u are looking for more down to earth prices for the servicing, Mr. Goh from K2 can do the job as well. Given his reputation, i doubt u'll be short changed with non genuine parts.

Wow this is a million dollar question... Frankly I've not seen that on my 6694 and didn't pay attention to it either... Most likely it could have meant "Swiss Made"???

Thanks! My colleague spent $2k + to change the case and dial, now wondering how much he could sell it to get a new model. My guess is $2k?

not an expert myself but usually these type of vintage: 1601, if head only, market rate is about $1.7+-, 2k+ on jubilee.



Ur colleague spent another 2k+ for the new case & dial so the total chalks up to almost 4k+



He's might take a big loss imo ;)

Actually I'm not sure if its a 1601 or 1501..

But these vintages really ranges between 1.6-2k depends on condition and if it has been serviced before. Usually it will not be worthwhile to sell after investing money to recon. Keep as a heirloom for the kids lah
