Grand Seiko - Pricing in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei
Hi All,

It's great to join this forum. I love Grand Seiko!

I am ready to browse and purchase my Grand Seiko, and could do so in Tokyo, Hong Kong, or Taipei.

Has anyone reviewed the pricing and selection among these three cities, to determine the best place to purchase after VAT/GST tax refunds are considered and the current FX rates?

It will be easiest for me to purchase in Taipei, but I will be in Hong Kong next month....Or is pricing similar everywhere?

Please let me know your thoughts!

Thanks.

I am on holiday in Singapore @ the moment , i purchased a Ananta & JDM SARB-023 from Thong Sia . I got a discount & good service , Thong Sia's pricing on GS watches after $$ conversions was equal to other countries in visted . ;) its seems Seiko is keeping pricing of GS , Ananta similar regardless of country .

Welcome to this Seiko forum harpua007.

Based on my experience, I would think that Tokyo would be the best place to shop for Japanese watches. Depending on the conversion rate, pricing would be competitive to very competitive as compared against Singapore or Hong Kong. You can also see and try out the full range of Seiko Japan Domestic Models (JDM) which usually is not available outside Japan.

Thanks.

Are they flagship/recommended stores in Tokyo or Osaka that you could recommend?

It would be much more convenient for me to purchase in Hong Kong or Taipei (as I travel there frequently, and have the GS itch), but if I can save 5% or more, then I'm willing to wait and book a trip to Japan.
Re: Grand Seiko - Pricing in Tokyo, Hong Kong, Taipei
Hi All,

I wanted to close the loop on this reuest.

I ended up purchasing the SBGE011 from the Seiko Boutique in Isquare, TST, Hong Kong during the New Year. Final price was 42,075 HKD (or about US$5,429. It includes a 2-year international warranty.

Before the purchase, I had compared pricing in Taipei, where the best price was US$5,847 for the same model -- after the 5% VAT tax refund as a tourist. It includes a 2-year international warranty, and an additional 1 year for Taipei coverage -- so 3-year warranty total.

For Japan, I could not do in store comparison pricing. However, SeiyaJapan has the online price listed at US$5,388, including shipping & handling. I'm not sure about the warranty terms, and did not mind to pay the additional bit of money in Hong Kong to allow physical inspection, and their adjustment of the links for the metal bracelet.

Overall, extremely happy with my purchase.

Two questions to wrap this up, as Arbitrage is one of my pet hobbies.

Could someone local provide best pricing on this model (SBGE011) for:

1. Japan boutique store, including tax exempt privilege allowed for tourists.

2. Singapore boutique store, including the GST refund allowed for tourists.
