My latest Tuna! The Albacore!

My latest Tuna! The Albacore!
Thanks to the members here, i have been poisoned!!

I had no idea about the existence of this cool tuna homage by Harold. But luckily the eagle eyed members here kindly shared the sighting of a new species of tuna - the Albacore! :D

The package actually arrived in Sg on thursday but was somehow only delivered to me today. 8-)

Here is the tuna can in the box...

Really cool tuna can ... 8-)

With some corny and funny writing on the label..

Lets pop open the tuna can.. ;)

yup one brand new Albacore! :D

As you can see it has sapphire xtal with an inner dome. There may also be Ar coating.

It comes on the isofrane style silicon strap. The strap is like all silicon straps - a bitch to put on especially squeezing the tail into the keepers.

But once its on, its comfortable.

The dial is quite simple and plain with only the tuna kanji character at 12 o clock.

The indices are raised and has a nice polished silver look. While the hour and minute hands are 6159 styled.

The sweep hand is the meat ball styled.

The buckle has the japanese tuna character etched on it - nice touch!

Also got the hammer bracelet - comes with the cool albacore etched buckle

It even has a diving extension

Plain blasted caseback with albacore design again

The Albacore is about the same size as the 7549 300m tuna and is also comparable to the recent baby tunas (with resin shroud) .

My early impressions are as follows:

Finishing : Case finishing is good though not as the same level as current tunas eg SBBN017 and Sumo.

The shroud has a nice brushed finish. Slightly uneven at some parts - but i am nitpicking here. The screws are normal phillips screws - thats good. The bezel is unidirectional, clicks nice and solid with some resistance, 60 clicks.

The crown really looks like the one from 7549 300m tuna - its unsigned and screws down solidly.

The movt is similar to 4R36 - it hacks and winds.

The dial is a tad bland for my taste and the Kanji tuna character needs some getting use too. I like the raised, silver markers - classy.

The date at 4.5 is also a bit weird for a tuna ;)

The caseback is also too bland for me. Would be nice to have a serial number ;)

All in all , a good quality watch and a very good attempt at a homage tuna.

I may post more pics when its on the bracelet and posing with the original tunas :D

Thanks for reading.

2 hoots in 2 weeks? More like 3 weeks

Will keep my eye on the movt for you.

After about 10 hours its about 5 secs slow but its still too early to tell.

How can I hoot an albacore?
Re: My latest Tuna! The Albacore!
Here is the official reply from Harold aka yobokies

"This new Albacore will be officially for sale soon. This watch is base on the SBBN007/7549-300m Tuna case using an automatic 4R/NH36 movement and it's rated to 200m. Only 150 pieces made and don't think I'll do them again once they're gone. Price for the watch on Ploprof style strap is US$399. Optional Hammer or Anvil bracelet is US$70 and I can install a domed coated sapphire for US$60. You can choose a black bezel insert like that in the attached or a 7549/6309 vintage style black insert. The Kanji word on dial means 'Tuna'. "

You can order the albacore by contacting Harold directly - yobokies@yahoo.com.hk
