Newbie to watch collecting

Just wanted to say hi to all. Recently discovered my appreciation for Seiko's and I'm just looking for more like-minded people. Will post pics of the pieces I'd picked up soon.



Just off the top of my head, what's the opinion on buying Seiko's online? The prices are significantly lower than whatever I've managed to find in retail shops. The online retailers are Singaporean businesses but I can't tell if they're AD's. However, the watches came with a filled and stamped warranty.



What are your thoughts?

If you intend to buy from Skywatches, it's better if you go personally to their shop @ People's Park Complex. Just use their online price, and bargain with them lor... of course don't expect much lower than internet price lah. If buy from them, you can molest the watch there, you can do own QC there... best of all, most of their stocks are J makes, with warranty honored by them!



You want better bargain? Then go for those without warranty! Mostly available in Little India area. Price difference to Skywatch is about 3 to 4 red bills.

Much appreciated, Ed. I'd bought from watch hub on ebay before and am pretty pleased with the service and delivery; which is very straightforward.



As for molesting the watches :) I tend to do that at different places to decide on what I want. My office is at the Heeren so lunchtimes are sometimes spent at Lucky Plaza where I can ogle the merchandise in the watch shops, but service standards there are patchy at best. Thong Sia is just behind my building so I do check out the showrrom there too. Quite eye opening as they have variant I've never seen in the retail shops. BUT when I'm window shopping I make it clear to the sales people that I'm just browsing.



I'd also just ordered an SSA060K1 from WatchSpree.com for just $350. The other lowest offer I had received was a retailer at Serangoon NEX for 30% off the RRP of $620.



I was wondering if there were any OTHER concerns from other members regarding online purchases... Given the way I do it, it would seem to me that it's the easiest and most pain free. Only drawback for me is that I don't get the immediate gratification of bring a new watch home NOW. But with savings sometime amounting to hundreds of dollars, that's maybe a couple of extra watches, which isn't a bad trade off for waiting.

Hehehhe, looks like I'm gonna make a pilgrimage down to Chinatown soon. Maybe on the weekend.

Very true, lunarin79... I feel the same way too. I'll check out these places you've mentioned and do a price comparison.

If I know the price and the very first shop I came to sell at a price that is close enough, I will buy Liao...



Won't waste time and effort to hunt the whole Singapore for the cheapest...

Ivan, I feel that way too... if the price is close to the online price, I'd jump at it without hesitation. In fact that was what I discussed with the sales dude at NEX. But even he admitted that he can't come close. I was happy to pay even $50 extra, but he had his his own ceiling for discounts; such is business.



But that being said, half the fun is going hunting. Isn't it?
