seiko 5 sports 73s6 day/date issue clarification

Hi everyone, virgin post here :mrgreen: . Recently, I bought a Japan Seiko 5 Sports Automatic Watch SNZJ11J1 from chinatown shop. (stated made in Japan) The watch looks pretty good and new, however I realised the date flips to the next date at 12.14++AM while the day flips at 2.55-3.05AM. (arabic or some kind of weird language at 1AM followed by english at about 3AM) All along, I thought Seiko produces accurate and precise timing automatic watches. Just wanna clarify if this is absolutely normal for a seiko automatic watch movement?

Sounds Normal to me for a 7S movt.



7S day/date does not snap directly when time hits 12:00.



It actually rolls over slowly, complete Day change 3am is normal



Date will start to roll over slowly when it is 11+pm and should fully change to the following date by 12am +-

Yep, you are right. The date does roll over slowly, completely flipping to the correct date at 12.14+AM for my watch. I guess I shouldn't be to anal for the +- 15mins changes :mrgreen:. Seems like it's normal :D. One more question regarding setting the quickset date/day during 9pm-4am, will it have any adverse effect on the mechanism or is it just an urban legend?

Not immediate but in the long run, yes.

Thanks for the link, that was really some in depth explanation though I am unable to comprehend most of the technical details. After reading the thread, I can say that quick setting the date/day, wouldn't cause immediate damage to the mechanism as 7S26 movement have safety mechanism built in. (slipping mechanism built into the date driving wheel) And since 7S36 is similar or identical to 7S26 with 2 more non working jewels, it shouldn't pose too much of a problem with regards to quick setting the date/day if one ever forgotten and does the quick set on the watch at the wrong time frame.
