What's a good starting point?

What's a good starting point?
I am interested in getting a Grand Seiko but there are just so many models out there!



If you had the budget to buy just one (regardless of price) what would you get?

What if you had to make a recommendation to someone like me, a newbie, who may have a tighter budget but wish to get started anyway?

Is there a god place to start looking? I checked out the Seiko shop at Vivocity and they are having a 20% but i found cheaper GSs online. What about vintage GS watches? Are those any good for a private collection? I was looking at Takayama Watches and happyhappy9877 on ebay...



Any advice please? :D

personally, i like the sbgr017.

Biggest case amongst all GS & the only model with a 200m rating & last but not least, the beautiful subtle textured dial

Thanks for your advice. GS is the top of the line right? If I plan to start I might as well aim for the best. if I can't afford it then I'll look elsewhere. "Go big or go home!"

Wow... really? Then I will surely fail to start... think I'll keep looking at GS for now.

Hey! Just an update, I never got around to getting a GS. Kept getting cold feet, worried about paying a super premium here compared to getting one overseas. Then heard about shaggyangel, whose prices are a good sum lower than TS shops and other authorized retailers. Then got even colder feet. Worse still, the wife kept saying "huh? 8k for a seiko? Might as well get a Rolex". So I did.

Actually, I did get a stargate. But dive watches really not my type. Let it go at a loss.

I totally agree! Credor is so beautiful and well crafted, just like the GS. Are you a Newbie to Seiko, or watches in general?

Rolex and GS? cannot compare lah, each has its own qualities. Just as I read in other forums, Steinhart being a look alike Rolex has some qualities it wins over a Rolex and it cost only a fraction.
