Seiko LCD Clock

Seiko LCD Clock
I have this Seiko LCD Clock that I love lots but the white rubber surround has deteriorated over time. It now looks yellowish and worse of all it's very sticky.

The model is QHL048W.

Anyone has a solution? Was thinking of using permanent marker to color it  :?
Re: Seiko LCD Clock
if you mean its rubber(resin) ,then its the resin rot due to prolong storage in tropical humid country ,thats normal for vintages, and will turn sticky, then crumble into pieces with time.

cant really do anything much but can try to clean it gently with mild soap/detergent and cloth.

hmm..spray paint it? not sure wats the effect like though
Re: Seiko LCD Clock
Use cloth dun tnk is gd coz the 毛毛 wil stick on it

Yeah sounds like resin rot. I don't mind changing the color by painting so long as its no longer sticky. Or perhaps strip it out :geek:

not those maomao 'good morning' cloth or towel...instead those polishing cloth ... cos u latte it with detergent ,it be 'slippery' ,wouldnt stick, tested and proven on my old casio resin bezels before.. alternatively can use thick servets. tissue is a no no...

if its sticky in first place ,you dont wipe/scrub with a dry/mildy wet cloth. instead got to mix with thick detergent and scrub under tap.

alternate with thick servets kinda, can scrub away the sticky layer one.
Re: Seiko LCD Clock
other better way that I used was using a soft(unwanted) toothbrush that I used for watch cleaning to scrub the surfaces with mild detergent...else can also use the greenish/yellow dish cleaning sponge...(bigger surface area)...
Re: Seiko LCD Clock
Buy from Daiso thin plywood ($2 per piece) and make it into a wooden clock. Since it is already so sticky, it will make your DIY easier.

Would love to scrub it under tap but its not water proof so bo pian :?

I have an old Yamaha cassette deck that has also sticky sides panels..... that one maybe I will use microfibre car polishing cloth with cleaner wax

hhmmm..... interesting idea....
Re: Seiko LCD Clock
Here's what I did. I love this clock enough to go buy the following from Art Friend on Saturday afternoon.

Yeap, acrylic paint. Kinda figured acrylic paint should work on resin/rubber.
Re: Seiko LCD Clock
After about an hour painting the LCD clock.....

Notice the texture? Didn't attempt to make it smooth as I like texture.... machiam oil on canvas

Another view

Some bits near the LCD screen unpainted..... need a steady hand.... migh do that another day if in the mood..... ;)

Can't do the same for my cassette deck.....
Re: Seiko LCD Clock
Swee! Great work bro.

Did the paint work? Is it still sticky?
