Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing

Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Hello,

This is going to be my first post and wondering if anyone has encountered the same problems.

I bought a Seiko 5 Superior (SYMF55K) ladies watch about 3 weeks back from Chinatown (the B&M store for skywatches) and gave it as a gift to my girlfriend last Saturday.

However, we soon realised that the day/date does not change between 12am-2am. Instead, it only started changing at about 4am-6am. so I tried turning ot to calibrate it but it didn't work.

Brought it back to Chinatown but the guy (at the B&M store for skywatches) just kept telling my gf that she needed to wind the watch 40times every morning. Still, the watch was left there for them to fix. Collected the watch yesterday and they said it was fine. But today, the day has decided to change back to "Tue" at 8am then back to Wed at 11am. Bringing it back again now.

Anyone faced this problem before? Any advice is appreciated.

Thank you!
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Just an update.

Brought the watch down today. One of the guys said, "oh, my staff must have forgot to tune the watch yesterday before returning to you."

That's twice in three days. wonder if they'll fix it.

Update 2: 26 Jul

Got the watch back yesterday. As of now, 0900hrs, the date has not changed yet. Going back again. 3 times in 3 days.

So far, no good experience with the shop. They don't seem to listen when trying to tell them the problem.

I still hope it can be fixed.
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Just curious, does the watch comes with Thong Sia or shop warranty ? So when you try forwarding the time, it always changes the date in different timing or consistent timing but just not at 12 ?

Keep testing it and do it on the spot, insist them to fix it, since they provide warranty, or get them to exchange for another piece. If it always changes in the same time, the hands are probably set back wrongly, but if it changes in different times, it's really weird...

Anyway, keep insisting them to fix, else you want a refund for them selling a defective product, or you will write to CASE. Singapore has passed the Lemon law, although it's only effective in sept but keep insisting, don't let them get away with it.

I haven't buy from that shop, I can't really comment if they are good or bad.

Update 3 on 260712

Went down again today. Spoke to Alice, she was much better. She assured my gf that she would personally see to it that the watch would be fixed. Looks like a problem with the movement.

Incidentally, found out that the guy's name was Mr Low. After going down twice to send the watch for repair, the watch was still not fixed. He didn't even manage to tell us what was wrong with the watch! Hopefully, Alice will be able to sort out the watch this time around.

Anyway, Here's a photo of the watch:

Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
u are a patient man
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing

Reattached your photo..
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Hi Lunarin 79, I'm not patient. Just don't have any other choice at the moment. If the watch can't be fixed and no exchange possible, I think I'll go to CASE. Pretty pissed off about the whole situation right now. 3 times to chinatown @ $8 each way comes up to $48. It's really leaving a bad taste in my mouth.

Roo7, Thanks very much for reattaching the photo. Not sure what I did wrong there.

Plus, the wtch changes date at inconsistent timings or doesn't change at all.

Further update from my gf who went down today:

No exchange possible because the watch is worn. She wore it for 24hrs before realising the problem. Wonder how we were supposed to tell there was a problem if she didn't wear it. This sucks because it was a birthday present and its going in for major repair. Need to wait a few days for troubleshooting and possible movement change.
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
I guess if it still didn't work after 3 repairs, that will be a very good reason to ask for an exchange/refund. Don't take any BS about watch having been worn etc.
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Wow, that sucks indeed. It's a real pain having to deal with this.

Grey market dealers are like that. And rarely come across a good place. Kinda have to go with chance on such buys. Which is why I believe many bros here don't (if they can help it) patronize these stores.

Hope it everything gets sorted out ASAP for you!
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
But what could be the problem? Seldom heard this type of problem before
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
I guess the date roll over mechanism is faulty.. couldn't find a better reason why it roll over in different timings...
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Hi Guys,

Thanks for all the help. Got the watch back yesterday. Alice, over the phone, said the movement was changed. But didn't get a chance to speak to her at the shop. So not quite sure what was wrong with the watch.

The watch is so far so good. Keeping my fingers crossed.

You guys are right, I'm staying away from grey market dealers if I can. What a bad experience.

Still loving my SKX007 and Frankenmonster!
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Good to know it's finally sorted. Grey market is not all bad, if nothing happens, it is much cheaper. However, if there are problems...

Thankfully they fixed it FOC (minus travel expenses), but there's always Mr. Goh @ K2 if you ever need. Heck, he's probably the best grey market seller to go to as well! ;)
Re: Seiko 5 superior - Day/Date erratic changing
Yeah! Been to K2 a few times. Got the 007 from him. He's really good! :P
