Gst?
Anyone knows if we have incoming items shipped by EMS with insurance, but declared as a gift, do we still get charged for GST if the value is declared at $600. Anyway to avoid? :)

Only way...is to declare value below SGD$400 or it's equivalent in foreign currency.

There is a 7% Goods and Services Tax (GST) levied on all goods, inclusive of new articles, personal effects, souvenirs, gifts, food preparations and dutiable products, imported into Singapore. GST is calculated based on the CIF value of the goods plus all duties payable. If the invoice value of goods does not include insurance and freight charges, the postage charge paid for the goods is to be taken as freight and insurance charges, and is to be added to the invoice value of such invoice for calculation of GST payable.
GST relief is granted on goods, inclusive of new articles, personal effects, souvenirs, gifts and food preparations but excluding dutiable products, imported by post to a total value not exceeding $400. Where the value exceeds $400, the entire sum would be subject to GST.

If you include the shipping+GST+selling price+ insurance still cheaper, then I suggest go by this route bah.
Else, u play big. Under declared so u save $50-$100 depending on the amt. See whether u can stomach the lost if, touch wood really get lost.
I lost a usd1900 watch becos I requested under declare. This one, I really Suck thumb loh.
I also under declared a usd3000+ watch to usd200. Luckily it reached my hand.

No problem. I noticed a common trend is well packaged boxes with official invoices tend to be taxed while lousy packed boxes especially when it's a private seller tend to escape the radar.
That's what happen to me so far. Majority of airmail don't get taxed, ems half half.. Once a seller packed it in a nice USPS box with declaration, got taxed.
Some ems in their own unlabeled boxes, poorly sealed and wrapped looks unprofessional, no tax.
FedEx, DHL, get tax all the time :(

Nope I have not bought from him before.
Maybe the others can advise. My experience is mostly based on what I shared above.
Key things so far are packaging and official invoices.

Had the same experiences as you bro with fedex and DHL sure kena tax, but with Helson, they took the initiative to under declare, Kudos to them lol.
And yes, once had a nicely packaged USPS Box... had to go all the way to Sing Post Office to show them a copy of the invoice before paying the gst...

quite rare i would suppose, yet to lose any item from fedex to date
