Quartz watch battery change.

Quartz watch battery change.
Hello everyone,

I took a Tissot quartz watch to Vincent Watch to change a bettery. Was quoted $25 for the battery replacement! Wow! Never expected that a battery replacement costs so much. Was told that it is a swiss battery, swiss watch must use swiss battery, if not, will affect movement, etc... Was also informed that if I were to bring back to Swatch, it would at least cost $50~$60.

To me a battery is a battery. Does not matter where is originates. It was towards the end of the day already and I did not want to go to else where, so I relented.

The price of a quartz watch...

TIA for reading. :)

They're just trying to rip you off that's all... C'mon lah, even if it's SWISS RENATA battery for your ETA movement, just one piece itself doesn't cost that high like $15 a piece.

Should your battery before change oredi leaked, your movement could have "hongkan" liaoz... unless they cook up fancy story that that rescued your movement lor... that's why $25.

I do not know Vincent watch ppl ...but what I see is that; other than the cost of the battery+technical work done(replacement of battery sounds easy but hey not everyone know about quartz battery change and inspection+fault finding of visble areas presented during battery change), there should also the 'guaranteed of work' behind the watchshop's name.. probably they priced it as such.

Ed, u knw 'Internet is Serious business'... without listening to vincent watch why they are charging 25 dollars for battery change....dont use the word 'rip off... doesnt sounds right IMO..

anyway IMO a full quality (professional) battery change doesnt mean to me just the action of changing a dead battery with new one. It involves the testing of all functions externally, inspection of circuit board(visible ares) for any leakage, moisture, dirt, replacement of battery, reset AC if any, testing of functions again and back up with some form of workmanship guarantee.. ;)
Re: Quartz watch battery change.
okay... i agree in certain way... my word is harsh.

But to be frank lah... the movement in the TS quartz TISSOT is a general ETA movement, even if it's a Chrono.

If the TS piece is a TAG, yeah... $25 seems justifiable as TAG Service Center or other high-end Service Centers will charge higher than that. By claiming that,

Was also informed that if I were to bring back to Swatch, it would at least cost $50~$60.

...is like giving excuse to chop carrot nia. Unless if they really does what you had mentioned, those post battery installation tests, clean ups, polishings... I would then say that $25 is well spent.

It seems that the TS doesn't get these post battery installation treatment wor...

I am stating the professional quality treatment(depends really on watchmaker in each shop, even good ones will also eat snake sometimes) but wouldnt comment on individual shop's fees and how they charge customers..but if you havent been preparing quartz, you wouldnt know the technical details(though to most ppl,its just a simple battery change).

why not you go and ask vincent watch why they are charging this $? that would clear any doubts you have.
Re: Quartz watch battery change.
i order renata online and chang my own battery , about $1-$2 a piece

I realised that I could get a way cheaper price at K2. But was too reluctant to travel all the way there as it was already late. :)

Re: Quartz watch battery change.
I used to help my Aunt change her watch batteries. I will open up, check what's the battery, walk to my nearby ABC or those value shop, buy those batteries. Each cost me $0.80 - $1 when I buy per piece.

Only problem is, without tools, those snap-on case backs can be a bitch to snap back.

So the additional $$ you are paying is purely for the service, what service, is subjective.

It's like you can brew your own coffee but you rather buy it from a cafe....

A quartz battery change at Swatch shop for swatch watches is at S$10/-. K2 ?? hmm, at a portion of the price + reset it for me. I realised that alot of time it is due to my impatience that I need to fork out more money.....
