ARBUTUS New York

ARBUTUS New York
Any views on the above brand, guys? Their watches looks good, mechanical and affordable, not sure what's the movement used. I especially love the 2010 LE skeleton below. Some models remind me of Seagull's.

Re: ARBUTUS New York
The first time i saw about ARBUTUS brand, was from some magazines from HK.

Then, physically, i saw the thing @ Mustafa some years back. The distributor then was not CRYSTAL Time.

Roughly about 2 years or somewhere in between, due to less popularity, ARBUTUS disappears from Mustafa.

It's was last year that this brand comes back to Mustafa's showcase, and this time round with more other retailers carrying this brand, i say... ARBUTUS comes back with full force under CRYSTAL Time.

However to what i know, all the while, this brand is available thru some in-flight duty free sales.

Onto the watches. The watches are mostly M.I.C. Just Like other Germasians, such as INGERSOLL and AEROMATIC, the watches are designed else where, but assembled in CN with complex movements that are not easy to service should anything happens.

For those who are looking for budget, cheap, complex timepieces but wouldn't want to pay SWISS 5-Figure premium price... these watches can be a temporary substitute jewelery.

Movement wise, while there are some collector's commented that the movements used are SEAGULLs, i seriously doubt so... Should these complex movements are SEAGULLs trump cards, these wouldn't be marketed with budget prices of less than SGD1k... Only a few models are really using SEAGULL movements,

ingersoll is not a germasian watch :(
Re: ARBUTUS New York
Are there similar looking timepieces around the same price range but more reliable? I'm in the market hunting for such "dressy" watch that doesn't cost my arm or leg.

If you're referring to vintage pieces, yes, they are not the current days mushroom germasians. Vintage Ingersolls are mostly packed with truly vintage european/american movements.

However, today, the Ingersoll brand is owned by a UK firm if i'm not wrong. And as with another UK prestige brand that i can recall, the watches are designed in europe, but M.I.C.

You might want to try Mustafa, by looking at their TITAN range of mechanicals. Movements are the same, but much better value considering that some of the rose gold models, after discounts, falls below 400. But in comparison, ARBUTUS or TITAN as well as BOSS, FOSSIL, do not have more complex movements than INGERSOLL.
Re: ARBUTUS New York
Ah, i browse the online titan catalogue this noon, looks promising. Perhaps i can find time out of this bz weekend to pop by mustafa!
Re: ARBUTUS New York

Ok... for all who're interested.

I had paid a visit to a Bencoolen shop which i previously frequent.

Check out the price of the ARBUTUS watches, found out that they're mostly given about 25% off listed price, which are mostly around 500 mark.

So, like the one above, two toned(rose gold with polished SS), except that the hands are cathedral patterned, rounder onion screw in crown, as well as screw in buttons by the side of the crown, with 100m WR...

CAN BE GET @ below 400 after discount.
Re: ARBUTUS New York
mind sharing which shop that is? can PM if cannot say shop name here? Thank u!
Re: ARBUTUS New York
Actually the shop name can be mentioned here... but i won't... as i find that the 2 competitor's(1 with just a shop but roughly 4 sales assistant inside and another with 2 shop but ARBUTUS in one of them to avoid clashing the same movements used INGERSOLL range in the opposite unit...) price are really quite close. Roughly abt 1 or 2 green bills difference.

The discount rates are almost the same... it's the options/choices that matters.

PS* (The latter is recommended!)
Re: ARBUTUS New York
