Some random heritage divers...

Some random heritage divers...
I was sorting out the storage for my watches and decided to take some ad-hoc group shots of these divers'. All of them are iconic in one way or another; some are vintage, some are reconstructed, some are reissues. Basically whatever I could afford to buy, afford to maintain/restore, and could find. There are a lot more to collect going along the "heritage" theme, and hopefully I can afford to add another one or two in this category this year.

u hooting lolex again ah?
Re: Some random heritage divers...
These three, they are about the same size, although if we view each one in isolation, the doxa 750 probably gives the impression of being the smallest.

Re: Some random heritage divers...
Here's another look at the Doxa 750. It is possible to end up with too many Doxas, so I decided to go for something representative of their divers during their heydays. So the dial has to be Orange, the bracelet has to be BOR, the case gotta be cushion, bezel gotta be ND, and of course it has to be BIG

Re: Some random heritage divers...
This is my newest and third Submariner. The other two are non-cosc 14060s, both without the chapter ring engravings, one with tritium, one with SL. Like Dr Goh, I am on the lookout for a matte dial non-chrome-lined 5513. For now, 14060s will have to do. Primarily I like this model (and its predecessors) because they have remained aesthetically almost unchanged through the decades (1953 iirc). Instantly recognisable, and often paid homage to, the time-tested design of the Submariner has inspired and defined a whole genre of diver watch design. For those of us on the fence about getting one, note that the 14060 has been officially dropped from the Rolex line-up. The successor, 114060, will have a cerachrom bezel, a modern bracelet (aligned with the other modern models), and of course the parachrom hairspring.

The example in the photo here is the last production run of the 14060M, the alphanumeric series. This is the only series of 14060 that has the parachrom hairspring. I'm very very happy and grateful to be able to own one.

In the following photo, I had just collected the set from THG, and first thing I did was to confirm that mine was fitted with the parachrom. Virtually impossible to shoot with an iphone, especially when the watch isn't hacked :| , but it is there!

A modern dinosaur, so to speak

Re: Some random heritage divers...
This seiko classic, came from a buddy here. Known as the "Arnie", this is also acknowledged by some to be a Bond watch, albeit fleetingly so. The movement is really interesting, especially the synchronisation feature. It is slim, and feels very tough. Some watches we buy because we caught a fever. I never had the fever for this piece, and only after I had it in my hands, did my appreciation and admiration for it grow. Given the condition, destined to be a garage queen right from the start

Re: Some random heritage divers...
I have been a fan of the ploprof 600, but had neither the funds to afford a mint healthy vintage, nor the expertise and patience to restore one that was within my means. So when the ploprof 1200 was shown at Basel 09, I was really excited and hoped that it could be affordable. Well in usual times it would have been, but 09 was no usual time. In 09, everything sank to 1200m; housing, equities... so I had no means to go for one. I had to wait another year or so before I had enough returns to pay for one, by which time the list price had crept up. Still, it was worth the wait, and the ownership has been satisfying.

I ordered mine with mesh, with the plan to purchase an isofrane subsequently.

Helium Release Valve (co-developed by Rolex and Doxa, according to online literature)

This is where the laser beam shoots out from.

Oh yah, I love that piece also. Too big for me, but looks awesome in photos. Collecting tunas can be a costly no-end business as well, so I suppose if I limit myself to only one auto tuna, it will be either the 6159 or the 8L35 reissue.
