Seiko 6139: Is this normal?

Seiko 6139: Is this normal?
Just got a 6139 from eBay.



This is my first 6139. Want to check, is it that I have to activate the crono, before my time can move?



My scenario, I stop the second hand by pressing top button and reset the second hand using the bottom to zero position, my time stop working, i.e. time stop as well. When I press the top button, the second hand moves and the time start moving again.



Is this normal? Don't seem quite right theoretically.

Time should continue running when the chrono is stopped. Note that the 6139 doesn't have a "normal" second hand, so the only way to tell that time is running is by the minute (and hour ) hand.

It shouldnt happen like what you mentioned,how did you confirmed that your watch isnt running after you pressed the stop->reset button(for chrono hands)? did you look at the minute hand for a minute or 2 and it doesnt advance at all? DId you put the 6139 close to your ear to hear the beat sound?



only thing I could think of is there isnt enough power reserve/stored energy for the watch to keep running even for short while.. shake it to wind it for a while.....while doing so put it close to your ear,you should hear the rotor plate(winding plate) turning smoothly... (swooshing...swooshing)

actually as long as the chrono sweep hand moves when you press start button,means there is enough power to run the watch... and even after you press stop/reset,the time should keep on running(balance wheel keep on turning)

Hi,

I put the watch onto my winder and have it run for 6 mins interval for an hour. The watch stay at the time I set, before I place it into the winder.



The strange thing is I start the chrono, the time start moving.



Yup. I agree with you regarding the power reserve part. When I shake the watch, and listen carefully, there seems to be 'sandy' sound.



I search thru this forum using "6139" and found that I am having the exact same watch that you are selling at the moment. The orange one. Even the bezel has the same silver part!

when you arent wearing the watch(on winder or table),do you keep the chrono on? If you off the chronograph...does the time on your 6139 still correspond to the actual time of the day?



-isnt the time always moving esp when its on a winder

-when you start the chrono,the center sweep hand would sure move..and sub register acts as minute counter



yup the faded silver part on the bezel insert(tachymeter) is found on most orange 6139-6040.

seems your watch is in need of immediate servicing...



probably some previous poor assembly/servicing job/dirty movement/movt alteration?...

Update:

"balance complete' was loose so cause Intermittant winding.



Mr Goh tighten it back. So now everything ok.
