Re: Hey! Heraustahl I owe u a sorry
Ivan, I actually kinda like your first version (the long one)
I never felt an apology was needed from you; thank you for the kind gesture, and I really appreciate it. (A bit 肉麻 but very heartening nonetheless :D )
This will be a high hit-rate thread with lots of views, so please let me go off-topic a little to share something. There used to be a local Volvo club/forum (not the same one that you see when you google for it now, although some of the original members are still there) locally that I was a part of, in 2003/4. The club was started by a couple of enthusiasts, who were in their 40s iirc, and I remember them to be very successful individuals. The club started out very cohesive, and we enjoyed regular wonderful road-trips up north with our families for short getaways and makan. It was also a very good platform for learning. The cohesiveness of the original founders and members remained good, for many years. It was a community and not a forum founded primarily on buy/sell.
Some friction then started, and apparently it escalated into
lawsuits over ownership of the club. As a small boy member (quite a few of the founding members are really really very well-heeled and not really from my age group), we could only stand by and see the club start to implode. Whatever the issues then, they were divisive, and polarised members into camps. Although the club operates and interacts primarily on an internet forum, the emotions and tensions were very real, and at that time the internal fighting was so heated that I remember other car forums talking about it. The closure of the forum was inevitable. It is really saddening, to see the trust and friendships built up over years threatened by suspicions and misunderstandings.
Here's one of the reference to the disintegration 4-5 years ago, made on the Opel forum:

This April, we celebrate the ONE year anniversary of this forum. Along the short journey so far, we have already lost at least two members, to what were probably misunderstandings. This forum has great potential, and its own unique flavour among the various local watch forums. So, let us not squander away this good thing - we should strive to post with accountability, learn to suspend judgement until facts are established, and make friends in real-life !!! Knowing the person behind the nick makes us read the same words differently. Afterall, this is not an international forum where relationships are necessarily built through correspondences; we can and do see one another for coffee, chit-chat, at Bencoolen, Twinkle, K2 etc, so let's all be gentlemen and assume the BEST of one another until proven otherwise :D
