Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries

Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
Hi Guys,

I bought 1 of this Seiko Sportura many years back, Model 7T32-6N00.

This watch has went through 1 times of watch battery change and a major repair 1.5yrs back due to a heavy knock. Recently i change the battery for the 2nd time, before that watch was left alone for about 1.5 weeks to find out it is not moving.

After the battery change, the watch will move when i am wearing it. However after a 5-6 hours, it would stop moving. I tried to wear the watch as much as i can over the last couple of days, cos i believe that it might be due to the charging of the kinetics which is probably not fully charged. However over the last 3 days, the watch does not appear to be improving.

1st day wear few hours, watch stop about 5hrs later;

2nd day wear 15hrs, watch was functioning normally as in no stoppage;

3rd day wear for about 12hrs, again stop after like 5hrs;

Would there be a good place to fully charge it for a small fee, or do some basic quick assessment as to the problems?

Sounds like the capacitor inside needs to be replaced.

I believe the older kinetics hv this issue with the capacitors.

Edit: wait... U said battery change and also mentioned kinetic??

Is the watch kinetic or battery?

iirc kinetics don't use battery.
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
well then probably it is not kinetics.

Can't remember it very well, this morning the performance was a lot worse.

The watch would stop erratically, moving for a while then stop, moving a while then stop.
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
Hi Bro,

This is the exact same watch.

Would it be expensive to change/ replace the capacitor at K2? Any ideas on the shop opening time?
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
7t is a quartz movement.

It may seems that the watch is faulty.

Try bringing it to k2

Go after 145pm ;)
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
that's bad, they open pretty late. This morning is worse, watch moves for a min then stops totally, despite me resetting it.

Something really appears wrong. Quartz movement spoilt? It was ok before the battery change.
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
I suspect the move might be faulty

7t32 usually encounters this issues.

It happened to my fren watch as well.

If k2 doesn't want to service it, u can get a cheap 7t32 chrono off the bay n swap the move into ur sportura ;)
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
actually 1.5yrs back i had the same problem. The watch was fixed by this Chinatown shop which i think a lot of brothers know about.

However, i hope the cost is cheap, becos it does not make sense to repair for every year. Usually such watches should be able to last pretty long.

I aiming Seiko Sinn, The Vintage look FFF dial and watch, and also probably the Seiko Submariner.

Right now i think i need more justification in buying a new 1 rather then repairing.
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
Get a mechanical next
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
watch is totally gone now. that's real bad. not even moving at all since 10am, even though it's on my wrist.

at least yesterday it was moving.

Sorry to hear that.

Like what bro lunar in said, it does sound like the 7t movement is up lorry.

Bring to K2 to see what can be done.

At the same time u can what mechanical watch u can get as replacement. :D

I just hope during the last repair, the correct battery was used.

All the best bro.

Do keep us updated. It would be good information for the future.
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries

Seiko Sinn

Seiko FFF Model

Seiko Submariner

Seiko sinn, not easy to get one now due to the sudden hype nw

Seiko FFF, there is one FS in the Buy/ Sell section.

Seiko submariner? Which model? Skx031?
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
Yes Bro you are right. I am a little more inclined towards the Sinn and Submariner due to budget and also the looks.

Looks like u are leaning towards a diver.

So ur budget is under $400?
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
well yes i would say.

Actually my this Sportura lasted me 10yrs of usage. I think that is really solid already for a 300+ watch. :D
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
Dats great to hear.

400 mark, you have a fair bit of options to play with, seiko sinn, skx031, skx171 etc.

Or get a classic vintage diver, 6309-7040

A must have for seiko diver lovers 8-)
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
vintage ah... worry about durability. Just sms petrolnut, seems that Sinn has no stock on hand. Aiyo....

Durability??

That's the last thing I will worry bro

These vintage divers are at least 30+yr old and is running strong nw, w/o major servicing.

Get a good condition one frm k2, you can skip the worrying part

Once a while, it pops out on our Buy/Sell Section too :D
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
heh... after checking so many places, i am pretty determined to get a Seiko Sinn.

Darn it is so hard to get 1, does Twinkle/ K2 help to order watches?

no harm making a reasonable offer
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
7T32 is a purely quartz chronograph movement and so are the 7T series(uses normal Silver oxide cell).

whereas Kinetics(any of the m series example: 3mxx,5mxx,6mxx etc) would be using capacitor cell in it(can be bought from Thong sia).

Kinetics require constant charging by wearers' arm movement to power up and is safe as long as it doesnt stop running. So means if you see 2-4 seconds ticks indicates the power reserves status riao..better to get it charged to one second per tick.

7t32 is a very basic 0 jewel movt. If you are lucky it will run for some good years...but from the design n outlook of the movement, its not meant to be as lasting as many other better design calibres.

you mentioned it runs(fully) but in on and off status...so I suppose its the circuit board /IC chip issue, somewhere is dirty/moistured..else it may be the coils problem if the registers aint ticking..
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
yeah, just back from K2, decided to leave watch there for further analysis. Mr Goh also said like movement problem, cos chronograph is working fine. Just pray hard that it is not expensive to repair. Still no Seiko Sinn...

Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
@ bro acertey: you can add a little bit more on top of that $400 to get an all ready to go 6309, check out my WTS post in buy/sell area for more detail info

Cheers
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
thanks man, most probably not, will still prefer a new piece. Although Seiko Sinn is sold out, i am now looking at the SRP031 watch. Just that very half hearted. Have to see final outcome if it can be repaired.
Re: Seiko Sportura Chrono Queries
Hi guys, finally collected my watch about 1 week ago. It was functioning, but today it give way again. I think it's game over, and the only way to repair would be to send to authorised dealer, or the repair shop in chinatown area.

Additionally i am also looking for a averagely priced Seiko Mechanical. Somehow like this SRP031 design, but i understood that the movement is probably some old design a couple of years ago and additionally with a hefty price tag of about 280. Wanted to check with this pricing, if i can find any recommendations for newer movements? Tried to search the Seiko Website, but seems like no appealing design so far.
