Short answer: no

Long answer: depends on so many factors.. Are you ready to look for that one part (might take months) which is not produced anymore by seiko, pay a hefty 50usd, wait for weeks for the trans-ocean shipping and then take the watch and parts to a watchmaker to fix (more service fee) ? What about chances of getting a frankened piece ? Aftermarkets ? Iconic or sentimental value of that certain model to you ?

So many factors to consider bro..

my answer : yes!

buying a vintage watch is not like buying a modern piece

you are buying a piece of horological history

servicing is part and parcel of a vintage watch or any other watch for that matter

thats just maintenance

as for frankened pieces... there are many frankened vintages out there , but not more than the millions of fake modern watches ( way more profitable)

if you buy from reputable sellers and do your homework , i dont see this as being an issue

Just to add Seiko start to use automation on their watch process in the 70s. So a pre 70s watch is all assembly by hand :)

My seiko vintage chronos are still going strong despite its age.

If u are thinking of adding one, get a original good cond piece & enjoy it.

Yes, refurbishing is a gift and a curse, depends on how you look at it, that comes standard with vintage watches..

+1 on the reputable seller thing.. My advice: buy the Seller, not the Goods..

I never ever wear my 6138s. Restoring them was a long, costly process, and while I do take them out to admire once in a while, they are all drawer queens. Ironically, in absolute terms they aren't really expensive watches, but after getting them back into pristine condition, getting a scratch on them would break my heart.

Also, it doesn't help that most of them are very thick and top heavy, and not exactly the most comfortable things to wear.
