Buy low, flip high (your thoughts?)

Buy low, flip high (your thoughts?)
Came across a few posts in another thread, decided to post here than to go OT over there. To a certain extent. I can understand how some bros may feel 'cheated' when people appear as genuine, sincere buyers ask for a discount gets it then post it for sale at a higher price a few days later.

But I was thinking, what if he really liked the watch at that point, but due to whatever reason(need money, CO kaopei too many watches, he decided he doesnt really like the watch as much) he tries to sell it at the higher price than he initially bought?

What are your thoughts? Good, bad, neutral, wrong? Does it matter what reason he gives you in order to get a discount?

True, he may have lied to get the discount, at the end of the day, its really up to you to give the discount and if you dont want to give the discount then you could have stayed firm with your price.

Buy low, sell high, how much one values an object is rarely exactly the same as another person. Theory of supply and demand, different people has different perceptions. Should we blame the buyer after we sell them a watch and they try to resell it at a higher price? :?:
Re: Buy low, flip high (your thoughts?)
in reality, we have no say once the watch goes into the other party's hand.

it's a free market out there imo, if he bought the watch at $1k & is able to sell at $1.5k or $2k, that is his ability imo.

No doubt it will be frustrating to see the same watch up for sale 2 days later on the same forum but in the end, it's up to the new buyer to decide.

I admit I do sell for some profit on external forums but usually I will cap within a reasonable amount depending on the watch's model, it's for those who love to nego.

If I'm lucky, I sell at a break even price. If not, it's always at a loss.
Re: Buy low, flip high (your thoughts?)
think u're talking bout my thread post.

i dun blame the buyer for buying and asking for discount and selling high I'm ok.

the problem is this kind of buyer needs to resort to this kind of story or lie just to make u give some discount.

my style is u view the watch u tell me on the spot can discount abit i sure give wan as me and the buyer go down to the dealing place to deal and whoever party does not wans to go back empty handed.

For both of my cases, after checking through the forum for the buyer movement, my watch not the only watch they buy and sell immediately.they had the history record.

That's why i say in my post that I'm sharing the story only and I'm sharing bout their ethnics not bout as per this thread title. They can and have the ability to buy low and sell high i only can give them a thumbs up.

Hi Bro, no ill feelings ok? :) Just a discussion because this could happen to anyone of us and I was playing the devils advocate. Personally, I dont think buy low sell high is wrong, bro lunarin's post sums it well:

With regards to lying about the reason to get a discount, its hard to prove.

no no no worries, it's all for discussion everyone is open to their own views.

to me there's 2 type of people.

1st type is true blue collector who just wan the watch to be in good hands and at the same time let the watch goes to everyone who enjoy the watch to appreciate it.to them the watch is a appreciation item.

2nd type is those true blue flipper who nv have any feeling for the watch, their style is just to earn the most profit against their cost.to them the watch is just a tools.

I think these are not mutually exclusive categories. Cat (2) may sometimes run in parallel to supplement Cat (1). Everyone has a budget, and if the hobby can feed itself a little, within respectable limits, why not?

I am more inclined towards following the market rate. Of course the word flip usually refers to a short time, but how short is short, and how long is long enough? One day is short, 10 years is long, how about 1.5 mths?

Also, it has to depend on the inherent demand and value of the watch being discussed. Some watches buyer will be willing to pay a premium - it is not always the ignorant buyer who pays more, sometimes impatient well-funded buyers will be willing to pay more too, just to not let the rare bird get away, or to incentivise the sale for the seller.

I think we discussed this in a thread somewhere before as well. And as I suggested there, if a buyer wants to buy a rare bird from me at my cost (which might be below market prices), then I'll packaged it with my Timex and he can buy both at cost too. But that won't happen. You have to slash 80% off a Timex before people take notice. So for sellers, we win some here, lose some there. Detractors like to look at that few cases of "profit", but to be circumspect they should also consider the cases of loss.

Re: Buy low, flip high (your thoughts?)
my humble 2 cents,John started this thread as a form of healthy discussion in general.

so lets not bring up the past/current (profiting by a seller) and pinpoint anyone from anywhere...it happened in few threads and discussion went bit OT(personal).

IMO anyone can sell anything that belongs to him for any price ,be it for sole profit or needy for money. There are so many factors involved;

where the item was bought and for how much, demand+supply, relationship with actual seller and the one who sell for huge profit etc..

there are much more bad deeds done by others in this watch collecting world/business...the above mentioned saga is nothing ,least not like selling a fake or misrepresent a watch on sale. profit is only possible with demand ,ability of seller and ease of buying/selling over internet.

If we dont like the price,we dont patronise the seller and also can warn others of better deals elsewhere.. but we have no say over his character. I always try to be a good collector, buyer and seller but I aint an angel myself too.. are you? :?:
Re: Buy low, flip high (your thoughts?)
what i heard from ah goh was someone placed an order, without placing any deposits, for some paros and wanted them urgently as he had overseas buyers , ah goh got the straps in quickly but the joker didnt collect the straps and didnt want them anymore as his overseas buyers cancelled their orders . Goh got stuck with those straps. So this joker was actually running a no risk sure win business by fully exploitng ah goh's kindness. Unfortunately ah goh is too good a guy to reveal the joker's name. But as someone said, u could only doing once ..not sure if he is the same guy you guys mentioned above .
Re: Buy low, flip high (your thoughts?)
oh...last time I sold a watch for 300USD nia.. cos I need the cash to buy other watch.. weeks later scrolling thru yahoo japan auction saw my watch listed at 180 000 yen... then later it was sold(buyer was actually a watch reseller from Japan)

will feel sian when you know your sold watch has been flipped for so much higher, its natural..but only possible with the ability of seller. So in this case,I have lost.. but wth... we always can learn from past experiences ..
