My Seikos - Part 2

Thanks all for all your comments. I am impulsive (opportunistic) in my purchasing; and buy what I find aesthetically appealling. Completely agree with comment about after market bits and over-polishing. (E.g. the6139-6002 started life as a Pepsi but as I have 2, I chose removed the slightly scratched insert from one; fitted a green insert and then replaced the bracelet with a Nato. For me, if they look good and sit well on the wrist, I'm happy. The great thing about Seikos is that despite having real pedigree, they are so affordable, like candy... Variety is the spice of life!!

Yup, still in London. I used to buy lots of vintage watches - but not Seikos - at Portobello Road, which is a wonderful 'institution' selling everything from mundane (including nice ethnic foods) to weird (like marwhal tusks). I have definitely spotted Seikos, but never bought any because I was much more into Rollies, Walthams, Omegas, Vacherons etc. Portebello is a must-visit for anyone who has not been there but turn up early (I used to arrive between 6 and 7am - and even then, the traders would often have snaffled the best bargains).



From my watch fanatic friends, Bermondsey Antiques market (New Caledonian Market), Bermondsey Sq (at junction of Bermondsey St/Long Lane, tube: London Bridge), which is open only on Fridays from 5am - 2pm is, another good watch source. I've personally never been there as I've never managed to bring myself to break a working day even for a passion. It attracts dealers from all over southern England.



Before my Seiko days (which only began late last year), I visited the Brunel Watch fair a few times, bought a few watches at relatively good 'trade' prices. But, nothing spectacular. I collect vintage Seiko only. I travelled around the world and try to find rare pieces lying around in flea market. Here is one piece of Seiko which I will have it restored. The problem is spare parts at times. Anyway, is another small project.
