Lost and found in the 90s

Lost and found in the 90s
After doing pre- spring cleaning, I found an old Casio model DW-7100 ( saw it on the rear-casing) that I wore probably during my Secondary school. It has a slider-rule bezel that comes with it. Any idea whether I can still replace the battery??

I can offer myself a home to this little one...and i can always change/troubleshoot (if no leak) the battery ... :lol:



*casio hard to mati one...unless leakage from battery acid

Wah..I know nuts about casio. But one thing I know it was my first watch given by my mum....:) Really no hope to find the battery ah???

qw-913 is the module number.... using Cr1616 midsize battery



you can replace the battery anytime...casio uses normal watch batteries nia... only harder to source battery is the cr2320 largest size(not thickness) meant for vintage casio g shock... using 691 module(qw-691)

Thanks Bro. Can I find in any good shop around us?? Btw, he is not a orphan ler...why you guys like to adopt a so beat up and no sign of life watch? Not much info on this watch too except some ang mo was looking for it for NOS...

bro, bring to watchshop, change battery, change gaskets. If the display still appears dead, remember to "short" the module.

no lar me kidding nia cos I dont really collect casio riao.. had a lot of these last time too...

got one like yours too...sold in ebay.



these 90's one hard to find NOS one....NOS one also may uplorry... :lol:

For some casios, after installation of new battery, you need to touch the battery and a certain point on the module (I use a metal watch tweezer). This will bring he moduke back to life.



I think Oosimm is the expert on this. I've seen his stash of vintage Casios, confirmed very experienced.

Finally, I did the replacement of battery. But the LCD is fading. Any suggestions to restore the LCD and the alarm???

Then should have hope. If it is my watch, I would try opening the caseback, take the module out, and use contact cleaner to clean the part where the LCD is connected to the circuit board (after taking the battery out of course); it is usually just dirty contacts.

as what herz bro mentioned,you can do a simple cleaning but that means you got to disassemble the module ,circuit board n the LCD panel. clean the "zebra strips" ,contact points on LCD but pls do not anyhow clean the circuit board with any liquid.. unless u knw what u r doing...



that begin said...this is just basic cleaning if the LCD digits arent appearing in full... means some LCD segments are missing due to dirty contacts or 'zebra strips misalignment'..



but for your case,seems faded LCD ...normally case of over exposure to direct sun/heat,or long storage period with no battery. what I did tried before and also advices from other vintage casio collector...you need to change the polarizing film. its a layer of transparent film that allows light to go be seen in an angle(say 90 degrees) but not (say 180 degrees).. probably that film layer needs to be change and it should be available in ebay or try simlim tower. but then the technical skills plays a huge part cos you wouldnt want to break the LCD or make it bleed...



my advice...leave it as it is after you clean it. LCD panels are fragile...

To clean electronic stuff, use this will do:

Esp for contacts hard to take apart to clean oxidised surfaces.



My technicians used this as part of the preventive items for regular scheduled maintenance on machine i/o cards and mobo.



The good thing abt this, just spray! cool sensation,wait a few mins, let it dry up.



I think you can buy this at sim lim or most home-fix, sometimes they have the Phillips blue can, its abt the same. dun use the red phillips, its cleaner, but oil based, doesnt dry up.

Wow....power!! I am a bit apprehensive to do it without formal training unless I am being train by you guys. Any good shop that will restore such watch.?

...this not easy if we talking abt changing the polarizing film cos we need to use penknife to openup the old film layer and LCD panel very fragile one...small force will make it bleed or chip riao.. and also must buy the film..not cheap also..



in the end,money spent will not guarantee a success... so I suggest locating a donor module from ebay...
