Guys,

I'm building a home entertainment system for a renovated house, thinking of doing a good set up this time on the audio system.. I listen to music more than watching movies these days, so I'm thinking of getting a vinyl record player..



I heard they're pretty messy (as in not really friendly to set up, costly and incompatible with today's gadgets), but they said the sound coming out of these old school records are worth the trouble.. I started reading around but confused still... Apparently these vinyl records comes in at least 3 formats:

33, 45, and 78rpm..



Any bros here mingled in this vinyl game before ? Need much help here..

bro it's very troublesome huan...u gotta change side manually, unlike cdp, u juz sit back and relax using remote control



my adv is u must overcome the hassle b4 u r ready to pick up this hobby...let me know if u really interested...

@ fireal: love the convinience, but I don't know.. Somehow I felt a little difference in quality between songs that I bought over iTunes and songs I heard from CDs



@ okies8: I don't mind the cd changing part, because when I sit, on the oh-so-comfortable lazboy, and listen to the music,I don't do nothing much except really listen to the vocals and the music, smoke and enjoy my drink.. It's the condition of these vinyls that I mind..



Say youre looking for an old Edith Piaf LPs, finding one in mint condition is close to impossible due to the needle and the nature of playing these LPs

itunes sucks , download lossless files with torrent , file is quite large though 50 mb or so per track

So, lossless is the name of a website or it's just a term for a high quality audio file ? Encountered one of these files before, I thought it's a Trojan or something because usually a track only goes up to 5mb tops

lossless is a general term for files with lossless compression.. which basically means you are listen as per original



the 3 common lossless formats for music are .flac , .wma and .alac





if not just dl mp3 above 320bp

No wonder, I always avoid .flac and .wma because of their size and incompatibility with iTunes.. .alac is a new format to my ears..

What about rippin songs out of CDs, how do I go to ensure maximum audio quality is captured during ripping ?

.alac is apple lossless , so will work great with itunes/ipod etc



ripping is quite simple ba ... i think thru itunes settings u can set what quality u want to rip it at, .alac will give u best results

If u intend to burn flac onto cd, u may want to convert to wav. When u burn, try to burn at the slowest available speed. I usually burn at 4x speed.

Thx for the input guys.. Will try to to rip a cd from iTunes first.. I like the idea where all my music is at one music program (eg. iTunes) if it works out, I don't even need an iPod dock.. I just need to get one of those multimedia box (eg. Popcorn Hour or AC Ray)
