Be careful then, I ROD grandfather years ago (way back when policemen wear shorts; it was called ROD) but hardly make it to ICT; maybe twice in all those years. So my unit dumped me and send me off to OPC holding centre and I haven't been able to get formally ROD since.

I suspect I will get my CPF (if any left) before getting ROD!!

Still have to call in before going aboard and apply for EP.

Re: JOBLESS
hey bros, need advice.

got offered a job in a pte education institution as a student admissions officer. its a sales cum admin job trying to get students to sign up for diploma courses.

basic pay $1850 but there's variable component in the form of commission, which im told can mean an average of $4k earnings a month. but thats probably ideal situation lah.

not sure about this job cos i study so hard to get a degree liao, then the basic pay is like female poly fresh grad pay.
Re: JOBLESS

need to build your network first

Don't think you posted what your degree is leh...

Anyway, to a certain extend, I think the first job is important to shaping your path. Maybe you should ask yourself what you see yourself doing in 5 to 10 years time, i.e. VP in a bank, achieve financial freedom, 1st 1 million?

Then see what kind of experiences and jobs will lead you to where you want to be.. Or, if you don't know what you want to do yet, try and survey the market first. See what kind of jobs maybe not so hot now, but may become in demand in 3 to 5 years :)

Set a career target for yourself, then you will have a better idea how you want to get there.

Re: JOBLESS
I got a pass degree in biz mgmt awarded by RMIT thru distance learning at SIM. i majored in HR and minored in marketing. I have no experience in a corporate environment and have only been coaching kayaking for the past 4 years while I studied for my diploma and degree.

Just went for 2nd interview to discuss salary and commission matters today.

According to the manager, all student admissions officers always hit sales targets and take home on average $4.4k/month due to the huge demand for the courses and small team of only 3 people. He even showed me a log sheet for a newbie who just joined in march 2011 who managed to hit sales target by end 2011.

My plan was to go into HR, but I have yet to recieve any calls for interview since I started job hunting in early December other than this position and 2 others in the outdoor industry. Also have friends who are unable to find HR positions with degree pay. They end up in recruitment/headhunting firms and drawing salaries just above the $2k mark.

So Im thinking of taking up this job and maybe switch to HR when things stabilise. The downside is that this job is not relevant to HR and I would probably have to start from scratch. On the bright side, I could potentially be earning quite a decent sum which would help me pay for master degree in the future.

I think you had make up your mind which is a sound one. Things do not look rosy in the coming mnths. Many ppl did not take up job related to what one had studied. Just go into the job with an open mind and learn new things which will go a long way in the long run.

I strongly encourage you to go for your master while you can even though I did not have a master.

While a job plan is good but seriously many things will happen along the way which will not be a good one but you will come out stronger and more confidence. Just take things as they happen. Good luck! ;)
Re: JOBLESS
Seems like you already weighted the pro's and con's. I guess the notice period is short, so probably no harm trying out first while planning for your future.
