Seiko 6139-7080 simple cleaning

I am not fully into Seiko 6139/6138 Chronos yet,maybe just a few variants attract me for now but if decent and affordable one comes by,I wouldnt mind. So came this one today and bought it as a running watch with few issues.



-inner tachymeter ring not center to 12..

-non able to stop the chrono( reset feature ok) hence now like flyback chrono

-date/day change bit stiff and sometimes crown(aka pushbutton) will jammed.

-wrong bracelet hence now seeking one from Seiko Club and SCWF



so I took the watch movement out and what a surprise I got :o







its darn clean machima NOS dial and the movement is very clean..













see no sign of corrosion and not sure why the 'stop' feature aint working. clean the interior of crystal and realign the inner tachymeter ring with toothpick. put back movement and double check alignment with tachymeter inner ring. Next clean/oil the push buttons a bit and also the crown,also acts as a lubricant.















Reassembled the whole thing and screwed back the backcase. Tried the 'stop' button once and it works.......but not for long.. after some more pressing,the button malfunction again and watch becomes a flyback chrono. This thing comes on and off so I suspect its the problem with alighment of pushbutton and movement on top side. Will see to it later again. Watch runs ok for now,minute register is working,date/day change seems smoother now afrer the oil lub.

ur end links looks like 10mm???



maybe can look for 10mm end links bracelet, but wider 2nd links to match ur watch body??



i bought 10mm end link bracelet from the uncle at sungei road that also appears at csc on sundays.



quite cheap, compare to ebay even w/o shipping. dollar to dollar comparision.

you mean go buy those with endlinks and then dont use the endlinks and connect directly?



the one I hope to seek is original 7080 bracelet or least similar that tapers from lug ..



but then if price is cheap,anyone also can ,as long look nice . But must be seiko bracelet .

I have several seiko bracelets too but with endlinks de...the one without endlink is very nice fishbone type..but width too small.. yup i look at local then overseas for now...

all 3 are 10mm, top 2 are seiko bracelet, use for my sanblasting spree liao. last pc from a fren, non seiko, but titanium.....



got another pc, but its scratched chrome, seiko also.



u see urs 10mm or 12mm?? cos i seen 12mm end links as well.



uncle i mentioned sells them if he has stock, i bought 2 for 25, quite some dirt on them to be cleaned up....

jus measured the bracelet...its a 10mm male side... but the side profile of case is around 25mm...hopefully find some bracelet from 25mm+- taper down.. I go check with uncle hou again if weather is good..

Bro, wat oil u use to lub the watch ah?

actually its WD40 nia.. i pour in small bottlecap and use it to clean the crown stem and push buttons. dont wanna apply any thicken type of grease or lub that kind overkill.. main purpose is to 'wet' the area,that's all.

Can work ah? Last time i had a slava russian watch and i shot a dose of wd40 into the movement think it lubricates the movement.



Skali turn out, the whole movement got stuck. Ever since nv use liao. Lol.

LOL, WD40 is too thick for movement.. there are different types of oil for various part of the movt like some jewels, some pinion..

but disclaimer, i don't know what oil to use. Must refer to watchmaking manuals...

there are lots of brand from overseas but easiest way is to get locally from katena or any watch supplies store.... wd40 has high viscocity and does thickens a bit after some time...so no no in movt..

osim, that blue thing in your first pic , top left corner, is that new case opener you just bought? looks like it has a centre wheel to adjust the distance of the 2 teeth.



btw, do u use watchmakers' glasses ? which one do you find most comfortable and useful ? :)

ya thats the new case opener. Its much better than 2 prongs (with long handle version) as this one has better grip,lesser chance of slippage. Also it lies low and in better contact with caseback slots.. handy enough to be put in your pocket.



I have few loupes and head mount magifying glass..the head mount one is easier and you can find in mustafa(more expensive) and also katena @ Rochor,else if you want cheaper version,go to sim lim tower (level 1 shops has riao) and these comes with light or no light.



built in LED light helps when you looking at closeup but not neccesary if you have a good table lamp..

-head mount magnifying glasses with velcro
