simple DIY watch disassembly/reassembly - help needed
So, from your generous help :D , I have learnt from u guys how to

1. open and lock the caseback

2. remove and renistall the crown

3. remove and reinstall the bezel

4. remove and reinsall the bezel insert



now I need to leran how to lift and set the hands. But, first I need to buy a

a) tool to lift hand

b) tool to set hand



May I know where I can get them locally? what is the preferred make/brand, size (if they come in various sizes) and the est. cost $.

bro for a full array of watch tools from cheap china made to swiss to expensive swiss tools(even rolex tools)...go to katena at 2nd floor .rochor center.



they are wholesaler and selling watch parts from omega,any other swiss,paros straps,other straps ,bracelets,rolex parts too...



*last time got one guy bought a NOS blancpain dial from them at very low price when they clearing old shelves.. inside lotsa treasures one..

yes bro...the ppl there are pro...more knowledge than many bros here lor... watchmakers go to them for parts that they dont have,include watch NOS or vintage parts..

Thank you Osim and roo. I need that working hours of theirs. I think I bought my spring bar removal tool there. not very sure. The shop is run by an Indian/mama right ?

I can't help but feel that those who spent time to DIY their watches r those who r passionate of their watches.



I think bros here r very imaginative too. Saw the mods, sometimes jaws also opened wide wide.....



Will I do it.... I dunno leh, butter fingers, careless and impatience really make me not the beat person to DIY.

I was kind of grounded due to my new born. In a way, i am taking a break from my sports. I am a professional sportsman. Thus, I got into watches. I believe once he is older, I will be back to my sports!



Furthermore, my attention span is very short. I kinda of enjoy u guys creation but, to do it myself is a different story. :)

get the official disassembly guide for the movement and work step by step from there, thats how i started out anyway , most important , be patient , if stuck dont bull you way through , just stop and get help



if not you will end up destroying pieces like what i did in my earlier days

I'm into watching making too and i think destroying a few is part of learning. :lol:



From pressing crystals retaining rings using table edge, yanking hands out with a fork (broke the pinion) to dropping tiny screws on the floor, i guess i've done it.



Here's what i did when i was bored that day. I printed a 6309 guide and dismantled it from step 1-50 plus and number each part on the ziplock bag. Now i'm putting it back from step 50plus. Stuck at step 40plus and I wana give up liao. :lol: :lol:

This is what i hooted today after a visit to katena @ Rochor. went there since on way back home and not far from MRT.

Got a bergeon tool with 3 spare tips,a 2 prong case opener(should have better grip than that in the china/taiwan made 16 pcs tool),5 pieces screwdriver.



saw polywatch polish @ 8 bucks,cape polishing cloth at 18 ?

and saw a few watchcollectors there also looking for parts.



Omega dynamic (oval shape) leather strap selling ard 30 bucks.

watch hands remover @ 70 bucks



All tools I see are mostly swiss made. China/Taiwan 16pcs tool set no more stock.

I have 3 prong opener and another 2 prong(with handle like a can opener :lol: ),this small rectangular one is more ergonomical and easy to use. Just tried it on a hard to open caseback,no slippage . cost me 25 bucks... got slightly cheaper one..



*extra tips is 2-3 bucks each nia... got 2 size for Y-tip. (pin tip is standard size)

case opener I saw 2 variety hanging along thes shop floor racks...mine cost 25 sgd,another one is slightly cheaper.. but they have espensive one from bergeon or other higher end brand ..



that small tube is extra tips for the set of screwdriver so if need replacement,I just change the tips only instead of whole screwdriver. Its secured by small screw at the tip of the screwdriver .35 sgd for this set.



bergeon is 22 sgd,each extra tip is 2-3 bucks.



they have all these small parts for your screwdrivers or bergeon so next time just buy those cheap tips replacement can riao.

just bought a bergeon presto hands lifter from khatena (paid $55.00, tag said $60.00, so there was some discount :D )



I lined up the hands and lifted the 3 hands in one go. Now got problem removing the dial because i dont know how my dial is attached to its movement. Internet search shows 4 general ways a dial can be attached to its movement:

1. sliding lever (mainly eta)

2. notch on screw lock against the dial feet.

3. pins go through dial feet

4. only friction (mainly quartz)

5. double sided tape or super-glue (cheap movement)



now my movement is an unmarked, backlane-movement, so probably no.5 above; but how do i find out exactly how the dial is attached to its movement ? help, anybody :)



btw this pwmf from our DIY sticky returned blank page. must one be a pwmf member to read their stuff ?

see side of movt got any retaining screw or anything that holds the movement or not lor.. use loupe see see and use small knife pry pry...

Looks like poke-poke here and poke-poke there trial-and error is the way to go then to remove the dial. :twisted: :lol:

after poking here and there, managed to remove the dial, day and date wheels.. gpgt :lol:





will start the reassembly soon, thinking of getting a movement holder and a case holder and a real black monster (or any of its color variants) seiko as the next project watch. Monster because :

1. i dont have one yet, and

2. there is a good 7s26 tutorial here.



will put up a wanna buy thread in buy/sell section :)
