Watch Tools - Any local sources ?
Hi all



I have decided to try my hands at removing the Movement from an old Seiko watch I got off the Bay. Also plan on trying to remove/replace the Dial and Hands.



Have been reading the "How To" Guides at the PMWF :

Is there a local source for reasonable quality watch tools like the ones in the below pic ? Not looking to get it all now, just the basics like :



* Case Opener

* Watch Case Holder

* Movement Holder

* Hands Lifting Tool



Any other "must have" tools ?

Bro if you intend to remove movement only, no need full set of tools. Just get a case back remover, the one on the left side of your pic, a spring bar remover(one end is a fork shape, the other end like a pin). This should be all u need to remove the movement, you may also need a safety pin to poke into the hole to remove the crown. You may also need a loupe(get cheap cheap from eBay), precision screw driver set, tweezers.



If yours is a vintage chrono watch then it may be a bit more complicated and harder to remove the pushers. Wouldnt recommend DIY.



To be honest you won't change dial and hands very often, think twice before investing in watch making tools. If not will sit there collect dust.

Nope, definitely not going to be trying to mess with a vintage Chronograph, will leave that to the Pros....



Actually, I bought a 6309-7040 Diver from the bay, with a bad dial and messed up movement. The intention was to play around with it, to practice removing the movement, dial and hands and replacing them.



I have a donor 6309 movement in hand, still sourcing for suitable hands and dial :oops:

In addition to the shop at Rochor Centre, there's a tool shop that has these. It is in the building connected to OG Orchard - from OG second floor, take the connecting bridge to the second floor of this building (I think it is Orchard Plaza or Tower) and the tool shop is within eye-shot of the escalator. I'm not sure if this shop is particularly cheap, but for me it is in a convenient location.

case back opener just have to be careful the way u grip the thing , dont grab the handle like a wrench! sure slip one







loupe i advice 4-8X is enough , 15x is way too much and distortion will be too high

Where is the shop at Rochore Center ? Is it on the ground floor ? Rochore Center will probably be more convenient than Orchard for me :mrgreen:

I was wondering whether that "3 tooth" Case opener is harder to use that one those "2 tooth" models ? I recall teh watchmaker I send my watches to seemed to use the "2 tooth" model...

Personal preference, i feel the 3 tip one more secure.



I don't use the handle. I grab it at the head and twist, watch head in palm and the other gripping the head of the tool, press tool into the watch head and twist slowly till u feel it give way. don't apply brute strength immediately, that's how case backs get scratches.

Hi Guys



Well, I got myself this nice Meikosha CaseBack opener and successfully removed the caseback and than the movement from my 6309 "Project" Diver :mrgreen:







But if I want to remove the minute chapter-ring, I now understand that I need a Crystal Press :oops:







Has anyone here used a reasonably priced crystal press, suitable for Seikos, that they would recommed ? Any info on price and source would be greatly appreciated :D
