Seiko shopping in Malacca

Seiko shopping in Malacca
Hi Bros,

I was in Malaysia the last few days, one of the stops was at Malacca(makan Chicken rice balls). As I was walking back to the car I saw some old watch shops along the street along the Malacca river. Saw the display case had a lot of Casios, curious I popped in to have a look at the Seikos. Saw a Pepsi bezel diver watch on rubber strap.

Movement stated 7S26, I think it’s a SKX007 NOS. Case back even had plastic sheet protection. I asked the old uncle how much for the watch, he mentioned RM250 without looking back. I am still new to the world of Seiko's but I from the past few months of research, RM250 for a new old stock SKX007 was a fantastic deal! I have stumbled upon a gem!! Even before I even bargained to bring the price down slightly. As I inspected the rubber strap, something didn’t feel right, the strap didn’t look/feel genuine, although it had the tsunami logo and it was Z20 or Z22 marking. I asked uncle to show me another piece under the display case(Yes there were 2 pieces of NOS SKX007). The straps were slightly different, the first SKX007 had a smooth finishing the 2nd one wasn’t had like a grainy texture. I examined the case back and it shocked me. Both watches had the same serial number!! I remembered reading Quartzimodo's website and he mentioned that all the serial numbers are different.

I questioned the old uncle regarding the identical serial numbers, he brushed off my question and said that the serial models are all the same for this model!!

I thanked him, returned him both watches and walked out.

I wouldnt consider the SKX007 as an expensive watch and there are still many of them floating in forums. Frankly I am surprised that I stumbled upon this replica Seiko.
