1 hour Seiko 7548 cleanup and OEM crystal change

I have bought this OEM/original crystal for my ultra wabified Seiko 7548 and 2 hours ago,I had decided to get dirty and clean+change crystal myself.



Lotsa scraping with toothpicks,digging with small needle,toothbrushing the casing,cleaning of edges along crystal/crystal retainer/bezel/crystal gasket and metal plate holder etc using WD40. Luckily i got a table lamp and head loupe to aid me in this cleanup.. ;)



first of all remove backcase,crown+stem and then movement .put them in safe corner.(clean watever thats needed)

next remove bezel using small swiss army knife,follow by 'peeling' up the crystal retainer. (this time round,lotsa flying wabi,cheese,chocolate...watever)



*there is a flat slot for crystal retainer so its pretty easy to remove it from crystal.



Next thing you see is the bare crystal thats kinda surrounded by the gasket. Pop the crystal out by placing the inner crystal side on top of a flat bottle cap of a water bottle..then apply some force and popped! it will come out easy...



So we have the crystal,crystal gasket and crystal gasket flat metal plate. cleaned them up slightly..together with the rest of the parts...



by then,the chapter ring would be accessible. looks clean so no cleaning needed..











*reverse the process to reassamble.. as easy as ABC..



chapter ring-> crystal gasket plate->crystal gasket->NEW crystal->crystal retainer->bezel



turn watch around,align bezel at 12 oclock with the chapter ring using toothpick!!



Insert movement and movement holder,followed by crown. Screw in caseback and done! :)

I do that alot of times. Recently i duno why i pop a plastic ring out from the bezel from one of my 7548 or 6309. Weird thing is, my other 6309 dun have this ring. U got see a plastic ring anywhere?



Oh, does a 3 prong case opener works better than the el cheapo 2 prong ones?

I cleaned up my 6309,6159,other seiko sports 100,150 and citizen divers. these kinda watches sure wabified cheesey gaolat one.. but really too lazy cos everytime wanna clean must think long time...once u start,its hard to stop until u reached a satisfactory cleaniness right? :D



hmm....6309/7548 gt plastic parts meh? not that I know of....



IMO 3 ring is safer to used cos the grip is better,more control hence able to reduce possibility of slipping(backcase scratches). the small 2 prong opener I hab too but nt easy to use...though its a gd piece for "field" opening...

hmm,I seen this pulsar movt 7548 too.... thought of using the dial and hands too but then think I just keep it as it is for now since dial and hands set already wabified..dont wanna incur more cost for this 7548.



if wanna hoot another 7548....rather hoot a good to go one in nice condition..(not now .... :lol: )

I used to clean every watch I got.. nowadays damn lazy, just use tissue wipe the back...

ya lor...used to be paranoid about dirty cheesy wabi watches myself...really makes life more busy by clean clean nd clean...very sianz... so either is chill a bit or get new watches(which isnt me)... still have lots of unclean watches...and bracelets :cry: (but bo chup for now)

you ultra the watch head? ok that's something I've not had the courage to try, especially for vintages. Water may enter as the head gets cleaned, once the water enter there is (above the attendant risk of water seepage) the additional risk of the bubbling inside hitting the more delicate components :shock: :shock: :shock:

My hoot not so expensive so can dunk it in. But one piece did got water seepage. Then send to k2 service loh. Lol.

ya lor...ease of mind method is remove movement and then u drop it in the solution.. if dont hab the ultrasonic cleaner like me just manual clean lor..

Bro do you have pic showing how to remove crown+stem from 7548 case and movement? I can't seem to find where is the release mechanism for the crown assembly.
