just wanna find out if sign on life gd or nt... hahah... may be thinking of signing on as a MDES medic with degree after serving my nursing 3yr bond... any advice would be appreciated thanks! :D

Wat u tnk of ur 3 yr bond?if u feel ok n dun mind millitry life(no golden hair,neat hair cut,morning SIR,no camera phone...) than is gd...:)

So, l cut it very short la. Just my humble opinion. I have nothing against signing on.



Unless, u sign on as officer, if not forget it. Even u sign on as officer, unless u r scholar or the top few percentile, u will be farmer during ur sign on days.



Some vocations/fields tend to be stagnant and u might find it monotonous after 2-3yrs, so u need to access yourself. Do u see yourself doing all these?



My Sis, bro and me used to be a regular.

I can't see myself doing what I was doing for the rest of my life, and the regimental life did it for me. I chose a harder path to go. I started a small business, and it was very tough in the first few yrs that I felt like giving up. Compare to sign on life, u r less likely to be affected by the economy, by rival companies and alot of other issues.



Well, it has its pros and cons in the private sector and regular life. U have to decide. Listen to ur heart not others.

astro: well, im kinda bonded to my hospital for 3 yrs after graduating with tat nursing diploma... depends lah, im trying to find a medical related job tat doesnt require so much washing hands type.. :lol: coz of my alcohol-rub induced allergy while working in hospitals, and i see this MDES career as another choice to stay in the line i love... and most prob, if i get in with degree, im equivalent to a officer at ME4 level.. :lol: besides tat, military life i actually dun mind... having served as a 3SG b4...



ivan: thanks for ur opinions! wat vocation are u in? yah, i can foresee if i end up in a medical centre day in day out for more than 3-4yrs, i aso scared i get bored... but then again, the draws of a high pay especially with the 3 yrs working exp as a nurse when i graduate should get me quite far, i think :?: though yah, have to maintain gd performance and blah blah to stay on in this career,but as i draw closer to 30yrs old, feel the need to jumpstart on earning power and save up for marriage with my gf too... hahaha... :lol:

Hi Magna....



The problem with working with SAF if u are in the medical line is that u do not get much medical "training". What u have learnt in school and as a nurse will be wasted. Hence, alot of problems if u plan to go out of the army and find work later in the hospitals.



But if u love the army and operational side of things and plan to stay on for very long term, then SAF may be the way =D

I m not in the medical line.

Bro, signing on as ME is not advisable. Officers promotion already very slow unless you're a high-flyer (usually only scholars), ME promotion will be even slower than the normal officers.

I used to signed on in the navy...as a technician.



Something for you to consider :

1. regimental duties such as :

guard dutise

exercise local and oversea

parade if any applicable (especially National day)

2. your personal time is not neccesary your own time... you are 24x7 activatable...

on leave are recallable



3. provide training - sign on do provide a lot of relevant training to your field of work - get free upgrade of your skill

4. do consider, if you contract ends, what age will you be, will your skill as a sign on still relevant ... are you able to get back the same kind of pay outside...

5. IPPT must pass now... if u r not those sporty type... will be a bit tough

6. if you are one who like freedom... and not to be constraint by others... sign on may not be for you.





But Sign on the pay is very stable...initial pay might be high, but as you move up, the increment is not as much (that was my time) not sure if its still the same...
