Re: SARB VS SCVS
Yes, Astro. The SCVS were part of the 'Spirit' lineup, until they were discontinued. Nice watches, but the Spirits are the entry level, the next step above the real cheap Y10000 or under watches you'd find in shops. Still nice with a 6R15 in there, sapph xtal to boot.

The SARB's are not Spirits.... they're found under the 'Mechanical' line. Looking at a catalogue now, they're listed with the SARC's, and SARY's.

Supposedly SARB's have better finish than the SCVS lineup according to people who've owned a couple of both, but I haven't compared, and not really able to as my only SCVS is the Spark, and my only SARB is the faceted crystal one. Would likely be best to compare something like a SCVS001 to a SARB071, which look almost exactly identical in pictures.

On the Spirit lineup, doesn't look to be any mechanical Spirits; they only have Solar and regular Quartz watches in the lineup now. The website also says Kinetics are available, but doesn't have any models listed.

Basically, the SCVS lineup was launched in 2005, went through roughly 8 or so models, and within 5 years was shut down. How? Did they not sell well? Doubt it, especially with the Sparks as part of the family.

What else could it be? Perhaps it was eating into the sales of the more expensive SARB family which, while perhaps better finished, was just too highly priced against the SCVS's? Perhaps a much stronger yen meant that it was just not cost effective to make the 6R15 SCVS family anymore? Perhaps both? Only guesses, but as good as any, I'd say....

I used to have these two. No difference in finishing. In fact, they use the same casing.

When they launched the 6R15 movement, there was no Mechanical line. Subsequently, they came up with 6R20 and 4L25 movements and the Mechanical line was introduced. My guess is, the SCVS's were discontinued probably because they wanted to put the 6R15 into the Mechanical line.

Re: SARB VS SCVS
